It was the darkest Dasara in the history of Mysuru, after violent clashes broke out between upper caste and Dalit wrestlers outside the Palace. Four men were shot dead by police. On October 3, 1953, 13 persons with bullet injuries were rushed to hospital. The festivities were cancelled on the inaugural day, probably for the first time since inception in 1610.
