Savage wants Man United to appoint 46-year-old as Solskjaer’s replacement
Brendan Rodgers is the perfect candidate to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United, according to former Leicester midfielder Robbie Savage.
The Red Devils boss is coming under pressure at the Old Trafford outfit less than six months after Manchester United named Solskjaer as their new permanent manager.
Solskjaer’s side have only managed to win two Premier League games this season, leaving the Red Devils in sixth place and 12 points behind leaders Liverpool FC.
Manchester United have scored a paltry five goals in their last six top-flight outings to highlight their problems up front following the departures of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez.
The Red Devils failed to even register a shot on target during their 0-0 draw with Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League on Thursday night.
Rodgers, on the other hand, has transformed Leicester into the most likely team to break into the top four this season.
Former Manchester United midfielder Savage believes Rodgers is the ideal candidate to take over the reins from Solskjaer.
“Brendan Rodgers is leading Leicester City back into the Champions League – and he is a future United manager,” Savage wrote in the Daily Mirror.
“Don’t get me wrong: When I say Rodgers is destined for high office at United, I am not saying Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should be sacked.
“I am not in favour of football’s hiring-and-firing culture, and Solskjaer deserves time.
“But I’ve been so impressed by the job Rodgers has done since he took over at the King Power eight months ago that I’m convinced Leicester can finish in the top four.”
Rodgers started his Premier League managerial career by achieving promotion with Swansea City back in 2011.
The Northern Irishman spent three and a half seasons in charge of Liverpool FC, leading the Reds to a second-placed finish in 2013-14.
Rodgers won three SPL titles at Celtic before he took over at Leicester last term.
