Michael Owen states his prediction for Newcastle v Man United
Michael Owen is backing Manchester United to play out a low-scoring game against Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils were held to a 1-1 draw with Arsenal in their last Premier League outing at Old Trafford on Monday night.
Scotland international Scott McTominay broke the deadlock in the first half for the hosts before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang levelled after the break.
Manchester United were unable to secure a win at AZ Alkmaar on Thursday after a goalless draw with the Dutch side.
The Red Devils have struggled to score goals in the current campaign after offloading Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez in the European summer transfer window.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have netted a mere nine times in seven games, with four of those goals coming in a 4-0 victory over Chelsea FC in their season opener.
Former Manchester United striker Owen is backing Manchester United and Newcastle to show their lack of quality in a low-scoring fixture at St James’ Park on Sunday.
“Newcastle failed to have a shot on target in their 5-0 drubbing at the King Power on Sunday although they did play much of the game with 10-men following the red card given to Isaac Hayden,” Owen told BetVictor.
“The Magpies are struggling to create opportunities, but I think they will get a draw against Manchester United in what promises to be a nervous, edgy St James’ Park on Sunday.
“Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side did get a draw at home to Arsenal earlier in the week and there was no lack of effort from the hosts, but they lack the quality that you associate with the club and these are worrying times, arguably, for both these famous clubs.”
Manchester United finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last season to miss out on Champions League football.
Solskjaer took over the reins from Jose Mourinho back in December.
However, the Norwegian head coach is struggling to revive their fortunes.
