Unai Emery has admitted that he has been hugely impressed by Gabriel Martinelli’s “hunger” since his move to Arsenal in the summer.
The forward signed for the Gunners from Brazilian side Ituano in the summer transfer window and the 18-year-old has been impressing when called upon this term.
The 18-year-old scored twice in an impressive performance in Arsenal’s 4-0 win over Standard Liege in the Europa League on Thursday night.
The young attacker will now be hoping to force his way into contention for a Premier League start as he looks to continue impressing Emery.
And the Arsenal boss has now revealed that he has been highly impressed by what he has seen from the teenager since his move to The Emirates in the summer.
Speaking in an interview quoted by Arsenal’s website, Emery said of Martinelli: “I saw him in pre-season and he was working and in each training showing us his hunger.
“In pre-season he was perfect all the time with us in training, and I spoke to him to be calm because when he arrived with an opportunity to play like tonight, if he continues with this hunger then I think he will do well.”
Martinelli will be hoping to feature for the Gunners when they host Bournemouth in their next Premier League game on Sunday afternoon.
The north London side are aiming to claim the three points to sign off for the international break on a positive note.
Arsenal are aiming to break back into the top four this season after having finished fifth and without a trophy last term.
