Frank Lampard admits 21-year-old Chelsea FC star has been impressing him
Frank Lampard has heaped praise on Fikayo Tomori for his impressive performances in a Chelsea FC shirt this season.
Tomori has ended up being a regular fixture in the first team at Stamford Bridge this season and he has been shining with some solid displays for the west London side.
The 21-year-old has scored one goal in four Premier League games for the Blues so far this season and he has been earning praise for his mature displays in defence.
Tomori has also made one assist in two Champions League appearances for Lampard’s side this term.
The young defender will be hoping to feature when Chelsea FC make the trip to Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
And Lampard has now lifted the lid on just why he has been so impressed by the central defender’s performances so far this season.
Speaking in an interview quoted by Chelsea FC’s website, Lampard said: “He’s quite quiet with me, but not quiet when they’re all together and you look from a distance!
“He’s definitely got personality. That grew last year at Derby. He became very popular in the dressing room, and popular with the fans for his performances.
“The progression is huge, but the main thing I saw in him was work ethic. He quietly goes about his business. He trains hard.
“Everything you ask him to do, he tries to do it and more. Physically he’s great, we know that. He’s one of those when you’re doing sprinting or running, or heavy running early season, you can see every day he’s nailed, he does the job.
“When you want to do a particular training session, something quite simple but which takes a bit of focus, he’s focused and ready to go.
“That has shown in his performances since he stepped into the team. I put trust him early in the season, and at the moment he’s really delivered. Long may that continue, because there is more to come from him.”
Chelsea FC head into Sunday’s game on the back of their 2-1 win over Lille in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
The Blues are aiming to maintain their spot in the top four this season after they finished third under Maurizio Sarri last term.
