[Women's Soccer] Achey Scores twice to help Women's Soccer Falcons Stay Unbeaten in Conference
WICHITA, Kan. – With the match locked in a scoreless duel for the first 71 minutes, Paige Achey (JR/Wichita, Kan. ) broke through in a big way with two goals to power the Friends University Falcons to a 3-0 victory over the Tabor College Bluejays tonight (Oct. 5) at Adair-Austin Stadium.
The victory moves the Falcons to 7-2 on the season and keeps them a perfect 4-0 in the KCAC.
"I thought tonight was our best team performance of the year," Friends head coach Brent Hobson said. "I'm really happy with how we moved the ball around in the back. Lea (Coccetella) is one of the best defenders in our conference and she led our back line very well tonight."
Achey got things rolling by making a great move around a defender for a clean look in the box that she didn't miss to put the Falcons on top with 19:38 left in the match.
The Wichita native's second goal came seven minutes later when her shot attempt glanced off the keeper and found its way into the back of the net off an assist from Jazelle Gonzalez (SR/Dallas, Texas).
"I thought Jazelle's assist to Paige was one of our best passes in the final third this year, it was great vision to find her," Hobson said.
To top off the victory, Achey fed Cassidy Darrah (SR/Wichita, Kan.) for a goal just two minutes later.
The Falcons outshot the Bluejays 12-6 overall and 8-4 on-goal, led by Achey's four shot attempts and three shots-on-goal.
Lauren Ferguson (SR/Wentzville, Mo. ) made three saves for Friends, with the Falcons also benefitting from a team save that stopped a potential goal.
Kami Quinn stopped five shots in the net for Tabor (3-5-2, 1-2-1 KCAC).
The Falcons will next be at Ottawa University for a Tuesday night (Oct. 8) tilt starting at 5 pm in Ottawa, Kan.
