Tories enjoy 15-point boost over Labour as voters back Boris’ Brexit plan
THE Tories have leapt past Labour with a 15 point boost thanks to Boris Johnson’s Brexit plan.
Leave voters have ensured the Conservatives surge ahead with 38 per cent of the vote while Jeremy Corbyn’s party have dropped to 23 per cent.
BORIS BOOST
The Tories have enjoyed a two point bump while Labour have dipped by one point, a poll by Opinium for The Observer found.
Brexiteers are throwing their support behind the PM with six in ten backing the Tories – the highest amount since the 2017 election.
But Mr Corbyn is not the only opposition leader to suffer a slump.
Lib Dem boss Jo Swinson experienced the largest decline – suffering a five per cent drop from 20 per cent to 15.
Mr Johnson was also handed another boost with voters continuing to prefer him in No10 than Mr Corbyn.
When asked who would make the best PM, 36 per cent of voters said Boris and just 16 per cent said the Labour boss, the poll found.
BRUSSELS BLAST
Boris’ surge in the polls comes after he announced his new Brexit plans and received a frosty blast from Brussels and Dublin.
The PM’s proposals lie on a knife edge after Irish leader Varadkar saying his bold offer “falls short in a number of aspects”.
While EU boss Donald Tusk said Brussels remains “open but unconvinced” about the ideas – as the clocks ticks down to the Brexit deadline of October 31.
Under Mr Johnson’s new plan, Northern Ireland would follow EU rules on goods, food and livestock but remain part of the UK’s customs regime — with Belfast getting a veto on the set-up every four years.
It comes after The Sun revealed that Boris was preparing to offer Ireland a big money deal to seal an agreement – but they rejected it.
I’m not a gambling man, so I won’t say what I think the odds are, but I’m sure there are some bookies telling us what the odds could be, it may be a bit of a long shot.
Krisjanis Karins
In his determination to get it done, the PM secretly offered to write Ireland a massive cheque to compensate businesses for any lost revenue caused by a cross-border customs system.
Despite Brussels’ cold approach, MPs have suggested there is a majority in Parliament to get behind it.
Members of the ERG including Steve Baker and Mark Francois have suggested they could vote for it – giving Boris the backing he needs to get it over the line.

Speaking today, Latvian PM Krisjanis Karins said Mr Johnson must be prepared to “compromise” over his Northern Irish plans if he wants a Withdrawal Agreement done and dusted.
He told the BBC’s Andrew Marr: “I’m not a gambling man, so I won’t say what I think the odds are, but I’m sure there are some bookies telling us what the odds could be, it may be a bit of a long shot.
“But it certainly is possible it depends on one crucial element – Mr Johnson as well as the EU are ready and willing to move on in a compromised manner.”
