Premier League star Jordon Ibe ‘crashed 4×4 into cafe causing £18k damage and was traced by wing mirror left behind’
PREMIER League star Jordon Ibe crashed his 4×4 into a cafe causing around £18,000 worth of damage – and was only traced when police found his wing mirror in the wreckage.
Officers have quizzed the £38,000-a-week Bournemouth winger about the 4am smash at The Pantry in Bromley, South East London.
Michael Dixon, the owner of the shop, feared the crash might put him out business.
He told the Sun Online: “We only opened again about a week and a half ago. It’s been so stressful.
“”For the first three weeks we thought we weren’t even insured, we thought that was the little company finished.
“It has cost us about £15,000 – £18,000 worth of damage but as we were out of business for five weeks, the overall cost was somewhere between £20,000 and £30,000.
“He just took a liberty and he’s on £40,000 a week.
“We had to borrow money. It’s our little cafe which we’ve run for six years.
“He crashed right through the front of the shop and took the front doors out.
“He left his Bentley wing mirror on the right hand door. That’s how the police found him.
“I found out it about it about 10 minutes after it happened when my alarm went off.”
POLICE INVESTIGATION
Police found the mirror in the cafe and used it to trace the footballer’s car weeks later.
The crash happened on July 30, days before Bournemouth started their Premier League campaign against Sheffield United.
Ibe, who Bournemouth bought for a club record £15m from Liverpool in 2016, has yet to start a Premier League match for the Cherries this season.
A spokesman for Scotland Yard told the Sun Online: “Police are investigating an incident after a car was in collision with a shop in Plaistow Lane, Bromley that occurred at around 4am on Tuesday July 30.
“The car subsequently drove away from the scene. No injuries were reported.
“The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was later traced and has since been interviewed under caution. Enquiries continue.”
Bournemouth declined to comment on the incident.
