DESIGNER Tommy Hilfiger has finally sold his extravagant New York penthouse after knocking almost £40million off the asking price.
The sale of the plush property will be a relief as it spent an incredible 11 years on and off the market, and at one stage estate agents declared the Plaza Hotel home unsellable.

Described as a “sprawling trophy home” in the New York Post, the publication adds that it’s one of the city’s few homes with its own turret.
It includes a mural of the Plaza’s most famous resident, Eloise, a young girl who lives in the “room on the tippy-top floor” of the hotel – at the heart of a series of children’s books written in the 1950s.
The artwork was hand-painted by her creator, children’s book illustrator Hilary Knight.
The art-filled corner penthouse features sweeping Central Park and Fifth Avenue views and 10-to-35-foot ceiling heights.
Its upper level, reached by a spiral staircase, includes a decorative fireplace in the master suite and a terrace that overlooks the park.
The corner duplex has undergone major renovation, and offers four bedroomsAt one stage, it was on the market for a staggering $80m (£64.6m). Hilfiger bought the corner duplex for $25.5m in 2008, and then tried to flip it for $50m a few months later.

It was then reduced to $50m in September 2017. The NYP says it believes that the trophy home ended up being sold for $33.25m (£27m).
