Tampa Bay made a statement on Sunday putting up 55 points on the NFC Champion Los Angeles Rams on the road in a 55-40 win. A week after losing a heartbreaker to the Giants, the Buccaneers responded with a franchise record for points and another performance of over 375 yards by quarterback Jameis Winston. Winston was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week after completing 28 of 41 passes for 385 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. Ronald Jones and Peyton Barber combined for 89 yards and two touchdowns rushing. Chris Godwin hauled in 12 passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns. Godwin is ranked third in the NFL with 386 receiving yards in four games.
While the Buccaneers offense stepped up, the defense was tormented by the Rams passing game. Jared Goff threw for 517 yards and two touchdowns, but also tossed three interceptions. The rush defense, which was one of the worst last year, is now ranked first after holding Todd Gurley to just 16 yards rushing, despite his two touchdowns. Shaq Barrett continues to impress week in and week out. Barrett had four tackles and one sack to bring his total to a league leading nine. M.J. Stewart and Kevin Minter added nine tackles, while Lavonte David had seven tackles and one interception. First round pick Devin White returned to practice this week for the first time since suffering an injury in Week 2 and could return.
The Saints have rattled off back-to-back wins against Seattle and Dallas and done both without Drew Brees. New Orleans handed the Cowboys a 12-10 loss. Teddy Bridgewater threw for 193 yards and one interception and was sacked five times. Alvin Kamara carried 17 times for 69 yards, while Michael Thomas complied nine catches for 95 yards. Thomas ranks first in receptions with 34 and eighth in the NFL with a total of 364 yards. All 12 of New Orleans points came off the leg of kicker Wil Lutz, who was a perfect 4-for-4 with a long of 42 yards.
New Orleans’ defense is ranked 26th in total defense with opponents averaging 391.3 YPG. Don’t tell them that though. The Saints shut down the Cowboys offense. Ezekiel Elliot rushed for just 35 yards and Amari Cooper had only 48 yards receiving. The Saints provided constant pressure on quarterback Dak Prescott as well. Von Bell contributed ten tackles with Demario Davis adding nine more in the game.
