BBC pundit states his prediction for Newcastle v Man United
Mark Lawrenson is backing Manchester United to settle for a 1-1 draw with Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Sunday evening.
The Red Devils will be looking to return to winning ways in the Premier League following two games without a win in the top flight.
Manchester United lost 2-0 to West Ham United in their last away fixture in the Premier League at the London Olympic Stadium.
Arsenal managed to leave Old Trafford with a point on Monday night after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a second-half goal to cancel out Scott McTominay’s opener in a 1-1 draw.
Manchester United have only managed to score five times in their last six games to highlight their lack of quality up front.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opted to offload Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku in September, but Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have failed to replace the goals.
Former Liverpool FC defender Lawrenson is backing Manchester United to drop more points in a stalemate with Newcastle at St James’ Park on Sunday afternoon.
“Newcastle waved the white flag at Leicester on Sunday,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“They completely capitulated in the second half and I am sure Magpies manager Steve Bruce will have made it clear to his players this week just how unacceptable that was.
“I would expect to see a reaction from them, and I also think some of the Newcastle fans who stayed away from their draw with Brighton will be back for this game.
“Manchester United huffed and puffed their way through their draw with Arsenal on Monday and never really looked like they were good enough to take full control of the game.
“I understand why United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is saying it is going to take time for his side to turn things around but, as well as having a long-term plan, they need to get back to winning ways soon.”
Manchester United played out a goalless draw with Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in the Netherlands on Thursday night to collect four points from their opening two Europa League games.
The Red Devils signed Daniel James, Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the summer.
