HELENA Bonham Carter has revealed her uncle dated Princess Margaret — who she plays in The Crown.
The actress said “something happened” when he was a Grenadier Guard in Windsor.
Helena, 53, said: “It’s weird, I basically went out with my uncle.” She added: “Uncle Mark escaped as a prisoner in Italy in the Second World War.
They didn’t send him away again, they put him at Windsor and he guarded Princess Margaret and Elizabeth.”
Helena, left, added at Cheltenham Literary Festival: “I have photos of them together. They looked dashing and remained good friends.”
Mark Bonham-Carter be- came a publisher, married into the aristocracy and served as Liberal MP for Torrington, Devon.
He was made a life peer in 1986. He was vice-chairman of the BBC and director of the Royal Opera House for 24 years.
Meanwhile Princess Margaret went on to marry Antony Armstrong-Jones, made Earl of Snowdon by the Queen in 1960. They divorced in 1978.
