[Volleyball] Volleyball Falcons Roll to 3-0 Senior Day Win Over York
WICHITA, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons couldn't have scripted a better Senior Day outcome, winning 3-0 over the York College Panthers today (Oct. 26) inside the Garvey Center.
With the win, the Falcons move above the .500 mark in the KCAC at 5-4 and are now 14-18 overall.
The Falcons dominated each set, starting by jumping out to a quick 7-1 lead in the opening game behind three kills from Ashleigh Hunter (SR/Andale, Kan.).
A pair of kills by Samantha Naake (SR/Woodland, Calif.) extended the lead to double-figures and the Falcons finished the set with a big 25-11 win.
Leading 12-9 in the second, two more kills from Naake fueled a 7-1 burst to give the Falcons control on the way to a 25-14 victory and a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Falcons then emphatically put away the win, scoring the first nine points of the third set before coasting to a 25-15 win.
A pair of seniors led the way offensively for Friends, with Naake hitting a team-leading 11 kills and Jana Boston (SR/Newton, Kan.) posting 30 assists.
Alyssa Arnold (JR/Goddard, Kan. ) paced the Falcons with 14 digs, while seniors Destani Garten (SR/Pratt, Kan. ) (13) and Melanie McCormick (SR/Derby, Kan. ) (10) also reached double-figure digs.
Tori Schindler led the Panthers (5-22, 2-7 KCAC) with six kills and Kayli Riesgo had a team-best 22 assists. York got a match-high 16 digs from Naomi Warren.
The Falcons were clicking on all cylinders as a unit offensively, hitting .257 for their third-best percentage of the season.
Next up will be the Falcons' home finale vs. Bethany College, set for Wednesday night (Oct. 30) at 7 pm.
