[Men's Soccer] Munoz's Hat Trick Fuels Men's Soccer Falcons' Seventh Straight Win
Lindsborg, Kan. – Heading into tonight's match, Marcio Munoz (SR/Lima, Peru) had scored one goal in seven matches during his first season with the program. In a span of 90 minutes, Munoz added three goals to his season total to record his first career hat trick and lead the Friends University Falcons to their seventh straight victory, an 8-1 romp of the Bethany College Swedes in Lindsborg, Kan.
The match was scoreless through the first 35 minutes of the opening half until the Falcons exploded in the late stages.
Roberto Gomes (SR/Bello Horizonte, Brazil) scored the Falcons first goal on a penalty kick with 16:55 left in the first half.
Two goals by Juan Zamora (SO/LaBelle, Florida) were then sandwiched around Munoz's first score during the final 10:10 of the opening half to suddenly put the Falcons on top 4-0.
Ander Linares Diez (SO/Bilbao, Spain) and Mario Trujillo (SR/Wichita, Kan.) each assisted on Zamora's first goal.
After the Swedes got on the board on a penalty kick from Jack Rhys-Jones early in the second half, the Falcons quickly restored order as Gomes' second goal was followed four minutes later with a goal by Shuta Okano (JR/Hiroshima, Japan) to stretch the lead to 6-1.
Munoz then put an exclamation point on the victory with two more goals to complete the hat trick, with the last coming with 9:26 left.
The Falcons (12-2-1, 8-1-1 KCAC) outshot the Swedes by a whopping 30-2 overall and 19-1 on-goal. Gomes led the Falcons with seven shots, with Zamora producing six shot attempts.
The Swedes (5-10, 2-7 KCAC) got six saves from Roland Kiss and four stops by Juan Saldivar.
The Falcons will now gear up for a key showdown when No. 6-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan University visits Adair-Austin Stadium Wednesday night (Oct. 30) starting at 8:30 pm. OKWU is unbeaten in the KCAC at 9-0 and is 13-2 overall.
