X Factor: Celebrity’s fans scold Simon Cowell as he makes ‘cruel’ jibe over Megan McKenna’s ‘Essex’ outfit
X FACTOR: Celebrity viewers have hit back at Simon Cowell after the judge criticised Megan McKenna’s outfit.
The 60-year-old was told off by host Dermot O’Leary for making a cruel comment about the singers outfit choice during Saturday night’s live episode.
Megan, 27, wowed viewers as she performed her own original song, This, on the show.
She wore a fluffy white top and sparkly trousers with huge fluffy white hems at the bottom.
Simon critiqued Megan, saying: “Love the song, hate the outfit. Megan I’ll tell you why I said that, this isn’t whatever the Essex thing is.
“This is a different show and if you really are going to take this seriously.”
He continued: “It’s so distracting and it reminds everyone of you being a reality star.
“And I know you want to move away from that.
“All I want to do is concentrate on the song and I thought the song was beautiful, so that’s my only criticism. I think you’re vocals were great.”
As the audience erupted with boos, Dermot hit back: “But she can wear what she likes!”
Viewers took to Twitter to defend the former TOWIE star.
A fan wrote: “Watched since a young age and can honestly say Simon is officially the worst judge, firstly complaining about Megan’s outfit? Referring it to Towie, I’ve never seen someone wearing that on towie, she did a great performance and you hardly praised her #XFactorCelebrity.”
The telly star auditioned for X Factor twice in 2014 and 2015, and got to boot camp on both occasions yet all evidence of her appearance on the talent show has apparently been removed.

She said on Lorraine: “Honestly I look back at myself and think, ‘oh my god what was I thinking?’
“I think I had a massive dose of body dysmorphia. I feel like what I would like to say to my younger self is ‘you really need to accept the way you look. This Instagram thing, looking online, wanting to look like other people, I was doing that.”
She added: “You lose yourself.”
