Frank Lampard wants Chelsea FC star to emulate Raheem Sterling
Frank Lampard has challenged Chelsea FC youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi to emulate Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling.
The Blues youngster returned from a long-term injury earlier this month to challenge for a first-team spot in Lampard’s team.
Hudson-Odoi got on the score sheet in a 7-1 victory over Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup last month.
The 18-year-old has since made assists in games against Brighton, Lille, Southampton and Newcastle United.
The England international is being talked up as one of the country’st next big prospects.
Man City forward Sterling, meanwhile, has scored 12 times in his last 13 games to find a level of consistency under Pep Guardiola.
Chelsea FC boss Lampard is hoping that Hudson-Odoi can follow Sterling’s example.
“I only want the best for him and I mention Raheem Sterling because he is such a good role model for young English players who play in a similar position to him,” Lampard told Sky Sports.
“Because of hard work behind the scenes you can see what Raheem has brought to his game in all senses and that is what I want from Callum, that starts with training where he can get every ounce out of it.
“From the moment he came back onto the training pitch we have been on at him with what he can do to improve – off the ball, on the ball, all the things that will make him a really top player.”
Hudson-Odoi broke into the Chelsea FC team under Lampard’s predecessor Maurizio Sarri.
The English teenager finished the season with five goals in 24 games in all competitions last term.
Chelsea FC were 1-0 winners against last season’s Champions League semi-finalists Ajax mid-week.
The Blues have won their last two Champions League fixtures despite boasting a youthful team.
Chelsea FC appointed Lampard as their new manager in the summer after Sarri opted to quit the west London side to take over the reins at Juventus.
The Blues finished in third spot in the Premier League table last term.
