Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told Man United should sign 24-year-old
Manchester United should sign Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish to replace Fred, according to former Spurs manager Tim Sherwood.
The English midfielder has been in good form for Aston Villa since the Birmingham side secured promotion to the Premier League.
Grealish got on the score sheet and created the winner in Villa’s 2-1 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion last weekend.
The 24-year-old has scored two goals and has made three assists in nine Premier League games so far this season.
Fred, meanwhile, has struggled to have an impact at Manchester United since his big-money move to Old Trafford from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018.
Manchester United have struggled with a lack of creativity in midfield this term, particularly in the absence of injured Paul Pogba.
The Red Devils were linked with a swoop to sign Grealish’s team-mate John McGinn in the summer.
However, former Aston Villa manager Sherwood believes Grealish would be a superb addition to Liverpool FC and Manchester City.
The ex-Spurs boss added that Grealish would be better value than Manchester United’s Brazilian star Fred.
“Listen, Grealish is capable of playing for any team in the Premier League, any team,” Sherwood told the Telegraph.
“He’s got something different that Liverpool haven’t got. That little bit of time, little bit of guile. At times they need someone who can control the tempo a little.
“I can imagine him getting the ball in the correct areas for a team like Man City.
“When Man United are struggling like they are for players of a creative nature, surely if they are paying £50 million for someone like Fred then Jack Grealish for £70 million? It’s a cup of tea.”
Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw with Liverpool FC in the Premier League last weekend after Adam Lallana cancelled out Marcus Rashford’s first-half opener.
The Red Devils are in 14th place in the Premier League table and a mere two points above the relegation zone after nine games.
