Tapales Vs Iwasa now eyed for December 7th, in New York
Earlier this month we reported that former WBO Bantamweight champion Marlon Tapales (33-2, 16) and former IBF Super Bantamweight champion Ryosuke Iwasa (26-3, 16) [岩佐 亮佑] were looking likely to battle on December 21st in Japan for the IBF "interim" Super Bantamweight, sharing a story from RealFight PH.
It now seems that whilst the two men will indeed face off in December the specifics aren't as first reported.
It now appears that the bout will take place 2 weeks earlier, on December 7th, in the US, as reported by Philboxing. In fact more specifically the bout will be at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York, as part of the under-card to the WBC Middleweight title bout between Jermall Charlo and Dennis Hogan. It will also be part of a triple header of "world" title bouts, alongside the WBA "interim" Middleweight title bout between Chris Eubank Jr and Matvey Korobov
A bout between Iwasa and Tapales has come about due to WBA and IBF unified Super Bantamweight champion Danny Roman being injured, whilst Iwasa is the mandatory. Whilst we're not fans of interim titles this does actually make sense and it's hard complain when an interim title is used whilst a champion, especially a unified one, is injured.
