[Men's Soccer] Men's Soccer Celebrates Win on Senior Day
Doane Men's Soccer picked up an important win on Saturday as they defeated Dakota Wesleyan, 3-1, to keep their post-season bid alive. The win moved the Tigers to 2-5-1 in the GPAC with three matches to play.
Doane scored early in the game as Markus Pieper (SO/Lincoln, Neb.) put the Tigers on the board in the 7th minute of play flipping the ball over the keeper, who had come out to challenge the ball. Pieper collected his second goal of the game in the 21st minute on a header as Gabriel Calixto (JR/Sao Paulo, Brazil) played a ball to the middle of the field.
Dakota Wesleyan cut into the Doane lead as Andrew Browning played a loose ball into the net off a corner kick by Rafael Medrano. Doane led 2-1 at the halftime break.
In the 70th minute, Josh Bundy (JR/Billings, Mont.) was fouled in the box and drew a penalty kick. Bundy fired the ball into the goal for a 3-1 advantage.
Doane was out-shot in the game by DWU, 18-14, however it was Doane posting a slight advantage in shots on-goal, 8-7. Nishesh Yadav (SR/Las Vegas, Nev.) posted six saves for Doane while Matthew Campbell had five for DWU.
The Tigers will travel to Seward, Nebraska, on Wednesday, October 30, to take on Concordia at 8 PM.
