Recruiting: Mutombo 2.0 Coming Soon
He’s young, he’s skinny, but he’s growing up fast. Look out, world.
Little Mutembo, if such a thing is possible, is on the way: Dikembe Mutombo’s son, Ryan, who is 16 and already 7-0 tall, is a high school junior. He has already received offers from some mid-majors and bigger schools are starting to catch on. UNC and Wake Forest want to take a look but Georgia Tech got in first and has already offered.
Potential triple bonus: Young Mutombo’s dad played for the Hawks, he grew up in Atlanta and his AAU coach is former Tech star James Forrest.
At this point in his career, he’s an exceptionally tall and skinny kid. He looks like the mailman could probably push him out of the post.
However, his father is a very solidly built man and his mother could certainly take out the mailman.
In other words, the gawky, uncertain young man we see now (his body reminds you of Brandon Ingram’s before he got minimally bigger) is soon going to put on muscle. He’s already far more mobile than his father was and unlike Pops, he grew up with basketball. When he fills out, he’s going to be trouble.
By the way, he bears a striking resemblance to his father. We can’t find a copy to link to but if you see one of him still, staring at the camera with glasses on, you’ll know. He apparently hates that particular shot but in it he enormously favors his father.
