‘They played like champions’: Roy Keane reacts to Liverpool FC’s 2-1 win over Spurs
Roy Keane praised Liverpool FC for playing “like champions” after they came from behind to win 2-1 against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday evening.
Harry Kane broke the deadlock inside the first minute at Anfield after the England international was quickest to the loose ball when Son Heung-min’s shot his the crossbar.
Liverpool FC recovered well and put Tottenham under pressure throughout the rest of the first half but neither Sadio Mane nor Mohamed Salah managed to score an equaliser despite having some good opportunities.
Jordan Henderson scored the leveller in the 52nd minute when the Liverpool FC captain got on the end of Andy Robertson’s cross before he clinically finished.
Mane continued to pressurise the Spurs defence and the Senegal international won a penalty in the 75th minute when Serge Aurier fouled the Liverpool FC number 10 inside the area.
Salah made no mistake from the penalty spot to give Liverpool FC a narrow lead before Mane played a big role in helping the home side to see out three points.
Liverpool FC’s 2-1 win helped the home side to restore their six-point advantage over title holders Manchester City after the Citizens beat Aston Villa 3-0 at The Etihad on Saturday.
Former Manchester United captain Keane felt Liverpool FC proved that they’re ready to be champions with a professional performance despite an early setback.
“Liverpool deserved to win. They were by far the better team. The really good terms bounce back [from setbacks], although they had a lot of time to do so. But they deserved to win, they were by far the better team,” Keane told Sky Sports.
The Red Devils legend added: “They played like champions. They responded really well. They were by far the better team.”
Liverpool FC finished in second place in the Premier League table last term after the Reds racked up 97 points but ended up a point adrift of Pep Guardiola’s side.
The Reds will take on Aston Villa at Villa Park next weekend.
