San Jose man, 18, arrested on suspicion of murder after shooting early Friday
Police arrested a young San Jose man in connection with a fatal shooting early Friday morning.
Carlos Gomez, 18, was arrested on suspicion of murder, after the shooting near South White Road and Florence Court, San Jose police said Saturday afternoon.
Officers had arrived at the location just after 2 a.m. and found the victim lying in the street with at least one gunshot wound, said San Jose Police spokeswoman Officer Gina Tepoorten. The victim, 25, of San Jose, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police were told the suspect had fled on foot and was associated with a nearby home. Police closed off White Road for three blocks as they searched for the shooter.
“Officers contained the residence and detained several occupants,” Tepoorten said. One of those detained was Gomez, and investigation by homicide detectives led to his identification as the suspect, she said.
Gomez was booked into Santa Clara County Jail.
As of Saturday afternoon, police had not released a motive for the killing, or the identity of the victim.
The death was San Jose’s 32nd homicide of the year.
