[Men's Basketball] Cavs record third straight 20+ point victory
MONTREAT, N.C. – Four Cavaliers scored in double figures off the bench as Montreat College men's basketball secured their third straight victory inside McAlister Gymnasium Saturday evening against Appalachian Bible College. Montreat's lead reached as high as 60 points for a 99-45 win to improve to 8-3 overall this season. This game also marked the third consecutive time Montreat has outscored its opponent by more than 20 points.
An Adam Riabi 3-pointer in the first 10 seconds of the game got things started for the Cavs, who held the Warriors scoreless for the first seven minutes while opening up a 26-0 lead in the first half. That run would see Riley Adams record his first points in a Cavalier uniform, a layup off of a steal with 13:12 remaining in the period. Adams followed the layup with his first collegiate 3-pointer.
The first half also saw senior Daulton Beard's first points of the season, back-to-back 3-pointers midway through the frame. Beard finished the first half with four treys for 12 points. Montreat entered halftime up 64-15.
The Cavs reached a season-high 60-point lead on two occasions in the second half, both times on a layup from Samuel Brown. Daniel Coldiron went on a run of his own in the half with 11 straight points for Montreat. Another 3-pointer from Adams pushed the Cavs to their second 99-point game of the season for their largest victory margin of the year at 99-45.
Coldiron topped the scorebook with a season-high 16 points in the game beside seven rebounds, and Brown led the push on the glass with nine boards and 12 points.
Amara Morris was a perfect seven-of-seven from the field for a career-high 14 points while Beard rounded out the Cavaliers in double figures with 12 points. Adams posted a team-high seven assists with eight points, and Elijah Carson had three steals.
As a team, the Cavaliers shot 57.5 percent from the field and 46.4 percent behind the arc. They outrebounded the Warriors 51-23 and only committed three personal fouls in the game.
