Servania takes technical decision over Pungluang
Earlier today in Kanazawa fight fans got a really interesting match up as former world title challenger Genesis Servania (34-2, 16) took on 2-time former world champion Pungluang Sor Singyu (53-8, 35), aka Panya Uthok. On paper this was a match up that promised a lot, given the quality of the fighter, but was also a match up between two men who were certainly beyond their best and were seen as being on the slide, after rather long and hard careers.
The bout began with Servania coming forward, fighting behind his jab, before stepping up his pressure in round 2, when he began to work the body of Pungluang up close. To his credit Pungluang fought back, but was regularly coming off second best.
In round 5, with Servania then comfortably in the lead, the two men clashed heads and Servania was left cut. The cut was in a rather unusual place, at the top of his cheek just under the eye, but was deep and worsened in rounds 6 before forcing the bout to be stopped less than a minute into round 7.
With the cut being caused by a clash of heads we went to the cards, which all favoured Servania with scores of 70-65, and 70-64, twice.
