The Good Place: 10 Funniest Janet Bings | ScreenRant
Good Place fans find a lot to love about their favorite not-robot, not-girl, Janet. One of the most entertaining things about her is her ability to "bing" things into existence. It's always in response to a request from Michael or a member of the Soul Squad, but occasionally they're vague enough that she gets to pick the details.
Since she has knowledge of everything in the universe, it's hilarious to see some of the things she can conjure out of nothing. And that special little sound effect is always satisfying. Here's a list of some of the funniest "bing" moments in The Good Place's history.
10 Business Puns
Michael couldn't have built the neighborhood without Janet, who binged it all into existence. Sadly, fans were not treated to the delightful binging noise for these. But in each rendition of the neighborhood, there were new businesses with ridiculous puns in their names. Or business themes, like frozen yogurt or clam chowder. While some were truly cringe-worthy, it's still funny to check the backgrounds when possible for the various business names throughout the neighborhood. It's hard to imagine eating at the "Hokey Gnocchi," but they are really in the Bad Place.
9 Cacti
Unlike humans, Janet sometimes glitches. One of her most prolonged glitches was an issue with binging cacti whenever she was trying to bing anything at all. They came in varying shapes and sizes, but none were what she was trying to summon or create. But hey, that's still better than a human could do. And it wasn't her fault; after being murdered by Chidi, she had to reupload all the information in the universe. It's frankly impressive she was back to normal as quickly as she was. And who doesn't appreciate a room full of cacti?
8 Photo Of Her "Kids"
Janet has a reboot button like a machine. But as a human-looking machine, her fail-safe is a little unusual: she begs the rebooter for her life. When Eleanor attempts to reboot Janet, Janet bings a photo of her supposed children and starts describing them (one has asthma, apparently) until Eleanor backs off.
Janet than calmly reminds her that the pleading is not real, and neither are her children. They are from the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards. It's the delivery that really makes the joke; Janet's switch from primal terror to calm and cheerful is hilariously disorienting.
7 A Sparkler For Jason
Sometimes people ask for the simplest things. Eleanor's specific request in the episode "Team Cockroach" was for "something shiny Jason can play with." A sparkler definitely fits that description, and quickly distracts Jason from the very important Team Cockroach meeting. It's hard to tell what's funnier; the look on Janet's face when presenting it, or the look on Jason's face when he accepts it. It's also funny that of all the things Janet could've conjured up based on Eleanor's broad request, she chose something that could possibly start a fire; that's someone who really knows Jason.
6 Garbage For Antonio
Timing is everything in comedy, and Janet is excellent at binging in at the wrong moment. Eleanor was just finished promising Chidi that she'd work really hard at learning ethics and being a good person when Janet arrives with the collection of worst-smelling garbage Eleanor asked for to give to Antonio (a Good Place resident later revealed as a demon). She also must've known Eleanor had changed her mind, because Janet knows everything in the universe (a fun game for Eleanor when she asks for secrets about various people she knew). But Janet's too helpful not to ask anyway.
5 Tickets to Hamilton
Michael had to reboot Janet quite a few times over the course of torturing the Soul Squad. Fans were treated to several of her "fail-safe" pleas for her life, but this one sticks out as odd. She pleads with Michael that she has tickets to Hamilton, which everyone knows are almost-impossible to get! Michael asks if there's any way for her to chill out, and she assures him she'll have to plead for her life every time. Bottom line, Hamilton tickets will not save Divine A.I. from a reboot.
4 Eleanor's Shrimp Machine
When Michael is trying to win his way back into the Soul Squad's good graces, he thinks of a few gifts for them. One of them is a shrimp-dispensing machine that bings out of nowhere per Janet's summons. While Chidi doesn't appreciate the attempted bribes, Eleanor is in love with this machine. She can barely wait to try it out, and it's a great callback to her devouring all the shrimp her first night in the Good Place. The details on this particular sight-gag make it that much better, with the machine dispensing various dips for the shrimp.
3 Herself
While Michael is attempting to torture the Soul Squad, he is thrown off by a rebooted Janet marrying Jason. Her explanation is the stuff of legend: "There is nothing in my protocol that specifically barred that from happening. So I agreed!" But Michael needs to talk to Jason alone, and tells Janet to leave.
She bings out of the room only for Jason to call her back. This results in a binging battle between Michael and Jason in which Janet happily bings in and out of the room repeatedly declaring her love.
2 A Massive "Print" Queue
When Janet and Michael come back from Earth and find the Judge waiting, Janet's binging powers come back online. And that means everything in her "print" queue has to bing into existence. Fans were treated to a mountain of junk dropping from the ceiling, including a sign that says Trevor stinks, a giraffe, and Ugly Nick's Meat Trench (a business one can just barely catch the Judge flinging into the ether). It's a heck of a way to take care of their problem with the Judge, and Janet reacts to it the way some people might react to accidentally burping.
1 Nothing
Poor Janet got stuck on earth with Michael for a while. That meant her binging powers weren't online anymore. She first realizes this when she tries to bing some drinks in a restaurant. But when she later tries to bing out of a room with Chidi and Eleanor present, she makes the bing sound herself and tells them to look away while she slinks out. It's funny to see Janet embarrassed by her unusual form of impotence, and the verbal 'bing' just makes it funnier. Must be annoying to lose teleportation powers.
