‘Composure’: Ian Wright reacts to Mason Greenwood’s goal in Man United v Everton
Ian Wright heaped praise on Mason Greenwood for his composed finish in Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Everton at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
The 18-year-old was a replacement for Jesse Lingard in the 65th minute with Manchester United trailing 1-0 to Duncan Ferguson’s side.
Greenwood underlined his growing reputation with a clinical finish with his left foot to beat Everton and England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
The teenager’s goal was his third in two games after Greenwood scored twice in Manchester United’s 4-0 win over Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League last week.
Former Arsenal striker Wright, who scored 113 goals in the Premier League, took to Twitter to heap praise on the Manchester United youngster.
Wright wrote on Twitter: “Brilliant finish by Greenwood Composure #MUNEVE”
Manchester United trailed Everton in the first half when Victor Lindelof scored an own goal from a corner after David De Gea clashed with Dominic Calvert-Lewis.
Everton’s opener stood despite a VAR check before Greenwood came off the bench with 25 minutes to go.
The England Under-18 striker netted an equaliser with 13 minutes left to play to help Manchester United secure a point.
Greenwood has been given more first-team opportunities by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the Premier League this season.
The Manchester United teenager has scored four goals and has made one assist in five Premier League appearances in the current campaign.
The Red Devils are in sixth position in the Premier League table and four points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea FC after Sunday’s stalemate.
