Tim Lincecum hurt in Giants’ win over Rockies
Tim Lincecum might have become a painful example of that axiom during the Giants’ 7-5 victory over Colorado at AT&T Park on Saturday afternoon.
A second-inning line drive off the bat of D.J. LeMahieu nailed Lincecum near his right elbow.
Lincecum left the game with what the Giants called a right forearm contusion.
Lincecum’s arm locked up on him immediately, but in the postgame clubhouse, he said, “It just feels like a bruise ... just a little bit stiffer than usual.”
In his six previous starts before Saturday, the two-time Cy Young Award winner had a 7.00 ERA over 27 innings.
Against the Rockies, he gave up three runs on four hits — with two walks — and recorded a mere five outs.
Said manager Bruce Bochy: I think it’s fair to say Timmy was (off) today, too, with his command, his stuff.
How long that break lasts depends on how Lincecum’s arm responds, of course, and what the Giants plan to do with starters Matt Cain and Jake Peavy.
Before Saturday’s game, Bochy said that he, pitching coach Dave Righetti and executives Brian Sabean and Bobby Evans were “pretty close” to deciding how to adjust their rotation and roster with those pending moves.
