NHL goalies on the move after series of trades
The second day of the NHL draft was also moving day for NHL goalies.
The New York Rangers were part of two of the deals, sending backup goalie Cam Talbot and a late-round draft pick to the Edmonton Oilers and getting back three draft picks.
New York addressed Talbot’s departure by acquiring goalie Antti Raanta from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for minor-league forward Ryan Haggerty.
The Carolina Hurricanes also swung two trades, picking up goalie Eddie Lack from the Vancouver Canucks for two draft picks and sending goalie Anton Khudobin to the Anaheim Ducks for defenseman James Wisniewski.
Minnesota goalie Devan Dubnyk, who posted a 1.78 goals-against average while starting 39 of the final 40 games of the season to help the Wild reach the playoffs, agreed to a six-year, $26 million contract.
Anaheim, which already had five Swedish players on its roster, added another in acquiring wing Carl Hagelin from the Rangers in exchange for wing Emerson Etem.
Arizona traded forward Sam Gagner and a draft pick to the Philadelphia Flyers for defenseman Nicklas Grossmann and the contract of defenseman Chris Pronger.
The inclusion in the deal of Pronger, who has not played since 2011-12, allows Philadelphia to trim payroll to get under the salary cap and brings the Coyotes closer to the lower cap limit.
