RHOBH: Garcelle Felt Pressure As First Black Housewife on Franchise

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ Garcelle admits that she felt pressure as the first Black housewife on the franchise. Garcelle wanted to make sure she was represented in her true form and not misrepresented.

The new girl on the block for the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast, Garcelle Beauvais, has been extremely transparent about her life, which is pretty refreshing considering how notoriously tight-lipped the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills group normally is. The Coming to America actress has already stood out by calling out Kyle Richards for not getting to know her. Garcelle has since revealed that she has a son, Oliver Saunders who struggled with addiction. The newest 90210 housewife is peeling back the layers allowing fans to get to know her on a deeper level.

The ladies who lunch may still be on their hiatus until July 8, but it is not stopping the mother of three from opening up about the pressure she felt when being asked to join the cast. The reality star spoke out on Katie Casey’s podcast Reality Life saying, "I definitely felt pressure that people wanted me to come in and do a certain thing." She was given the feeling that producers wanted her to join the franchise with a chip on her shoulder.

Die-hard fans are aware that the 53-year-old was the first person of color to hold a diamond. It only took ten seasons for the network to expand from its main cast members. Garcelle’s main concern was that she did not want to be represented or labeled an "angry black woman." The actress would like to stay true to who she is and up to know she feels she has done a very good job. The new edition has become a quick fan favorite. Garcelle even joked that she was not prepared for the social media take over. She revealed her co-star, Lisa Rinna told her that the show comes within layers. First, the women film then you see what others have said about you, only to have the rest of the world weigh in.

Bravo fans are looking forward to the reunion of the women, where they will soon jet off to Italy for the next part of the season. Rumors are the hiatus was needed to cut Brandi Glanville out of scenes due to her past racist comments. The tension feels like a pressure cooker building up for a grand explosion. With so much to look forward to viewers can hardly wait for next week.
