RHONJ: Dina's Husband Indicted for Hiring Mobster to Beat Husband
The FBI has arrested The Real Housewives of New Jersey’s Dina Manzo's ex-husband, Thomas "Tommy Manzo, for allegedly hiring a mobster to beat up her boyfriend. Fans always suspected that the New Jersey crew had ties to the mob, and it appears the rumors were credible.
Dina only lasted on the show for three seasons. After the sixth season, she decided to relocate to California. The blonde showed off her party-planning abilities often during her time on the show and stayed very close to Teresa Giudice. The mother of one also had a very public feud and falling out with her sister Caroline Manzo, which still hasn't ceased. Both Dina and Caroline were married to the Manzo brothers, but Dina separated from Tommy Manzo in 2012 after cheating allegations. The divorce was finalized in 2016.
Much like fans' suspicions of shady mob ties, the FBI also thought the family members had a strong connection to regional crime families, having apparently been watching Tommy Manzo for years. According to NJ.com, Dina’s ex-husband was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly hiring a hitman to assault her husband, David Cantin. An indictment was released by the US Attorney General’s Office for the District of New Jersey, and it read that Tommy and John Perna, a member of the Lucchese Crime Family, were arrested on charges of planning and carrying out an assault on Dina’s new husband in aid of racketeering.
Fans will recall that Dina was assaulted back in July 2015. The couple was only dating back then, shortly after she split from her now ex-husband. US Attorney Craig Carpenito revealed that Tommy and John have been indicted over committing a violent crime in aid of racketeering activities and conspiracy to commit a violent crime in aid of racketeering activities. John Perna was additionally charged with conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud, which had to do with the submission of a false car insurance claim. Documents show that Tommy hired John to assault David in exchange for a discounted wedding reception scheduled to be held at The Brownstone. According to the documents, John carried out the assault and went on to enjoy a lavish reception for a fraction of the cost.
Tommy Manzo’s lawyer released a statement saying that his client was innocent, claiming the allegations sound like a plot to a reality TV show. Both men are set to appear in court on Tuesday.
