90 Day Fiancé: Why Tim Clarkson Has the Nickname 'Cheese Stick'
Tim Clarkson and Melyza Zeta are the latest couple to be introduced on season 2 of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way. After having a string of Colombian women in its long list of stars like Paola Mayfield, Jeniffer Tarazona, Ximena Parra, and more, Tim and Melyza’s romance seems to be just another formula for reality TV success by the 90 Day Fiancé franchise. And as every pair on the show, this one has its share of tumultuous ups and downs as well. But along with the dramatic plot-twist that Tim revealed during the episode, him talking about his nickname "Cheese Stick" provided major comic relief.
The 34-year-old Dallas native met 29-year-old girlfriend Melyza Zeta from Columbia when he was studying at the University of Iowa. The newest episode initially introduced him as a happy go lucky guy who loves to spend time with his support cat Pepe. But in true 90 Day Fiancé fashion, things quickly took a dark turn when he revealed that he was arrested for breaking and entering of vehicles when he was about 24. After spending time in jail for 28 days and spending three years in probation, he ended up wanting to change himself and enrolled in college. He fell in love immediately after meeting Melyza at a bar, who back then worked as an au pair. She has to move to Boston within a week but the two kept seeing each other regardless. A year later Melyza flew back to Columbia to finish her studies but Tim happened to cheat on her with a co-worker. He ended up losing her trust and made a decision to shift base to Columbia to prove his love for her.
The coming episodes in season 2 promise to follow his journey to the country to make things right, especially after even his close friends seem to support his girlfriend in this situation. Although fans have found it difficult to connect with Clarkson due to his adultery confession, a lighter aspect of his introduction was him mentioning that his nickname is "Cheese Stick." “Growing up I considered myself pretty straight-laced,” he noted while adding that he didn’t drink, or do drugs until he went to high school. His nickname came to be "Cheese Stick," and explained, “I guess since I resemble one,” with a chuckle. TLC even showcased a few childhood pictures from Tim’s lanky phase to prove the point.
With Tim having the American stereotype by his side, his relocation to Columbia, even if he plans on returning back with Melyza surely promises a culture clash. The preview for the next episode of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way sees his mother having a heart to heart with her son, telling him that she’s nervous for him.
Just like the audience, she feels that Tim is making a huge mistake. “As a woman, I could forgive but it would still be in the back of my mind,” she shares with concern. So far, things don’t seem to be in Tim’s favor. But thankfully if they don’t work out, he’ll still have Pepe for company.
90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way airs Mondays at 9pm EST on TLC.
