The ICMR-Regional Medical Research Centre for the northeastern region at Lahowal, Dibrugarh district, has successfully isolated the Covid-19 virus strain active in Assam that will help in developing an inactivated vaccine. It has been found that all strains circulating in the state are of the same ‘A2a clade (a grouping that includes a common ancestor and all the descendants) which is dominant across the world, including India.
