How To Beat Master Mustard's Final Battle in Pokemon: Isle of Armor DLC
Master Mustard is the final challenge of the Pokemon: Isle of Armor DLC. This guide will help players defeat him in battle. The Isle of Armor is a new location added through the Pokemon Sword & Shield expansion pass. This area includes new Pokemon, a new story scenario for the player, and over 100 older Pokemon from previous regions making a return to capture. The Isle of Armor itself is a beautifully crafted tropical local with deep oceans, tall mountains, and its own culture for the island. Items are also littered all around the island. Players can find sparkling items on the ground ranging from Apricorns to items that help trainers evolve certain Pokemon. Master Mustard is the final challenge on the Isle of Armor and this guide will help players defeat him.
The final battle with Master Mustard is possibly one of the hardest Pokemon battles in the game. Players were fairly comfortable going through the rest of the base game and the DLC content, but the final battle with Master Mustard cranks up the difficulty to the max. Players begin their adventure on the Isle of Armor by completing specific tasks for Master Mustard. These tasks consist of chasing after fast-running Galarian Slowpoke, finding Max Mushrooms for Dynamax Soup, and building a bond with the legendary Pokemon, Kubfu. Kubfu and the trainer will explore the Isle of Armor together, seeing popular and beautiful sites. Once the bond has been established between Kubfu and the trainer, they can work together to take on either the Tower of Waters or the Tower of Darkness. Each tower is a 5 story battle gauntlet full of trainers attempting to take the trainer down. Also, once the player decides which tower they wish to battle, the other one is closed off permanently. This 6-on-6 battle is available after the player has evolved their Kubfu into Urshifu. Master Mustard will then invite the player to the back of his dojo for one final battle. This is right beside Champion Leon as one of the most difficult bosses in the game. It's important to prepare with the best of your Pokemon. Here's how players can defeat him.
All of Master Mustard's Pokemon range from Level 73-75 for this battle. Here is Master Mustard's team and how the player can take each one down. It may take a few attempts to take him down (even if the player has a level 80 team).
- Mienshao (Fake Out, U-turn, Blaze Kick, Close Combat): This is the first Pokemon he sets out. Bring a Flying, Fairy, or Flying Type to take it down. This is the easiest to deal with. Whatever Pokemon Master Mustard sends out next will likely have a move/type that counters what the player has.
- Luxray (Psychic Fangs, Wild Charge, Crunch, Play Rough): Ground-type moves will quickly get rid of this Pokemon. He does have a wide move pool from Electric to Psychic-type moves.
- Corviknight (Iron Head, Brave Bird, Body Press, Light Screen) It will set up a Light Screen, a move that will nerf special moves for 5 turns. Try to take it down with a Physical Rock, Fire, or Ice-type move. Its defense is weak and it will likely fall in one hit.
- Lycanroc (Accelerock, Stealth Rock, Stone Edge, Play Rough): Lycanroc will likely set up Stealth Rocks, a move that will damage the player's team every time they switch Pokemon. The goal is to take it out before it can set up its rocks. Use a Water or Grass-type with high speed to bring it down fast.
- Kommo-O (Clanging Scales, Aura Sphere, Flash Cannon, Clangorous Soul): This thing is an absolute monster. The moment it sets up Clanging Scales, it will get a stat boost for all of its moves. If the player lets it set up for too long, it will be unstoppable. Quickly take it out using a Fairy, Dragon, or Ice move.
- Urshifu: This is Master Mustard's final and most dangerous Pokemon. It will be the opposite of the Strike Style the player selected. Master Mustard will also immediately Gigantamax this Pokemon. If it's the Single Strike style, then you're in luck. Use a Fairy Move to get x4 damage. If it's the Rapid Strike form, the best idea would be to stall until its Gigantamax is over. This thing is incredibly powerful and will likely take out any Pokemon on the team. Use Electric or Flying-type moves to defeat it.
The player will be rewarded with Master Mustard's League Card. The League Card itself provides some important lore to Master Mustard's storyline. It also slightly hints at what's to come with the second half of the DLC. Master Mustard is such a different entity when compared to the rest of the game. Every other trainer and gym leader the player encounters on their journey through the Galar region is a complete joke when compared to Master Mustard. The challenge was incredibly refreshing as trainers will need to strategize when battling it. This is of course if the player's team isn't fully over-leveled. Hopefully, more Pokemon titles will use this battle as a template for future mega bosses moving forward. The Crown Tundra, the second half of the Pokemon Sword & Shield expansion pass is scheduled to release later this Fall. This will include another new wild area, over 100 older Pokemon to capture similar to the Isle of Armor, and new legendary Pokemon to battle and recruit to the player's team. This marks the first time in the series history where a mainline title has been given paid DLC. Hopefully, the Crown Tundra can provide a challenging battle similar to Master Mustard. Master Mustard's battle is one for the books. He also hints at making a return in the future. Could this mean in the Galar region? Or in a brand new area? Only time will tell.
Pokemon: Isle of Armor DLC is available now. Pokemon Sword & Shield is required to play.
