Next up for American Pharoah: Haskell Invitational
All right, American Pharoah, you’re the first horse in 37 years to win the Triple Crown. What are you going to do now? Disneyland and Disney World are out of the question, so how about the Jersey Shore?
That’s where American Pharoah is headed Wednesday from Del Mar, specifically to Oceanport, N.J., where he’ll run in the Grade 1, $1 million Haskell Invitational on Sunday at Monmouth Park.
It will be American Pharoah’s first start since his 5½-length victory in the Belmont Stakes on June 6 completed the first Triple Crown since Affirmed in 1978.
Sunday’s 11/8-mile race for 3-year-olds is a natural for trainer Bob Baffert because he has won it a record seven times.
