Deadpool Was Hired By An Eight-Year-Old To Kill His Dreams
Deadpool known in Marvel Comics as the Merc With A Mouth - a mercenary who takes any hitman job he can get. And since Deadpool is known as being a dark and ridiculous character, it should come as no surprise to fans that when he is hired by an eight-year-old boy named Peter Quincy to kill his nightmares, DP doesn't hesitate to answer the call.
The list of Deadpool's bizarre tales seem endless. At one point he is hired by Galactus - also known as the Eater Of Worlds - to kill a cosmic being called the Beyonder. Of course, things go awry when he becomes possessed by Venom and the strangeness continues as Deadpool tries to become a hero. Another time that things turn sour for the mercenary is when he joins Barney the Dinosaur to go to a birthday party and surprise the kid; but when they become stranded in a tundra, Deadpool is forced to eat Barney - leaving only his head. But even by DP standards, things become somehow even more outlandish when he agrees to help Peter kill his nightmares.
In Dana Schwartz, Reilly Brown, Nelson DeCastro, Craig Yeung, Matt Herms, Guru-eFX, and Joe Sabino's Deadpool Annual Vol. 5 #1, the titular antihero is playing skeeball in an arcade and receives a letter from a courier. It informs him that an eight-year-old boy named Peter Quincy is willing to hire and pay him his $7 allowance to kill his nightmares. Although Deadpool is a killing machine, he still has a beating heart and goes to the Peter's house to ascertain why he is continuously having disturbing dreams. After talking with Peter and learning that his parents are never around to help him get over his nightmares, he decides to take matters into his own hands and goes straight to Dr. Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum to steal the Amulet of Agamotto.
Because Deadpool is somewhat familiar with the Amulet, he puts it on, jumps out of a window, and kills himself before Dr. Strange's ally Wong can stop him. Due to the Amulet's magic, Deadpool ends up in the Dream Realm and confronts Nightmare - the Lord of Dreams - about stopping Peter's trauma. After Nightmare toys with Deadpool for a while and realizes there is no use fighting him - because of his healing factor and annoying banter - he decides to show him Peter's nightmares, as long as Deadpool is willing to leave his kingdom and never return. Deadpool agrees and Nightmare shows him Peter's terrible dream of a malevolent gnome inflicting pain on the him. Once Deadpool discovers that the face of the gnome resembles Mr. Hewitt - Peter's babysitter - he breaks the chain of the Amulet, returns to the material world, and goes to save Peter from the clutches of Mr. Hewitt.
Back at Peter's house, Deadpool attacks Mr. Hewitt and kicks him down the stairs, which snaps Hewitt's neck when he hits the floor. Thus, Deadpool rescues Peter from his nightmares and from his babysitter. After Deadpool kills Hewitt and Peter wakes from his nightmare, he tells Peter the really horrifying truth... he now owes him seven dollars.
This story can be added to the list of Deadpool's bizarre tales - next to the time he stole Thanos' infinity gauntlet and the time he gave up killing for non-violence. Plus, even though Deadpool is a gruesome killer, he still possesses the will to be a loving and giving individual. Especially, when it comes to helping those who are innocent.
