The latest on Simon Cowell and the new ‘Secret Garden’
Simon Cowell has surgery for broken back after bike accident
LOS ANGELES: Simon Cowell underwent surgery to repair a broken back, the result of an electric bicycle accident, and was recovering at an unidentified hospital. Family members were present.
Cowell’s overnight, six-hour surgery included placement of a metal rod. The entertainment mogul was “doing fine” and remained under observation afterwards.
Cowell’s wife, Lauren, accompanied him to the hospital and was able to see him briefly. The couple’s son and Lauren Cowell’s child by a previous marriage were with Cowell when the accident happened.
Cowell’s injury will force him to miss the beginning of this season’s live shows on “America’s Got Talent.” AP
Reimagining ‘The Secret Garden’ for a new generation
After 27 years, Frances Hodgson Burnett’s “The Secret Garden,” is back with a new adaptation.
Mary is played by Dixie Egerickx — after watching around 800 auditions — who displayed a remarkable intelligence and understanding of the character. Colin Firth and Julie Walters are also part.
Instead of 1911, it’s set in post-World War 2 1947. Mary still hails from India, her parents still die of cholera and Archibald Craven is just as ghostly as ever.
It’s currently available as video on demand in the US. It will be getting a theatrical run in the UK in October. AP
