The stunt team jackets for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings might tease the appearance of Marvel villain Fin Fang Foom. Marvel Studios has spent the last few years actively developing a solo movie for Shang-Chi. The film was officially announced in 2019 with Simu Liu set to play the Master of Kung Fu. However, Marvel has kept details about Shang-Chi under wraps, with only three confirmed cast members.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was one of many productions to be shut down in March due to the coronavirus pandemic. After not being able to film for four months, director Destin Daniel Cretton was able to resume production a few months ago in Australia. The cast and crew wrapped principle photography on Shang-Chi just a few days ago. Cretton and Liu both shared their excitement for finally finishing production afterward, but they weren't the only ones. Awkwafina and members of the stunt team posted online about the milestone, and the stunt team jackets might have revealed a new detail.
Simu Liu showed off a portion of the jacket in his wrap post, and so did Jade Xu. The three-time Wushu World Champion confirmed her involvement with Shang-Chi by sharing a photo on Instagram of her in the stunt team jacket. The image is taken from a slightly different angle than Liu's and shows off a bit more of the sleeves' gold design. This new look shows a similar design to a twisted torso of a dragon. Although the possible appearance of a dragon on the jacket could be a random dragon design or a tease of the Master of Kung Fu logo, this might also be a tease of Fin Fang Foom.
Fin Fang Foom is one of Shang-Chi's biggest villains in the comics. The dragon-like creature is a shape-shifting alien that arrives on Earth in ancient China, looking to conquer the world. Fin Fang Foom did not actively participate in the conquering right away, as he was put in a tomb to sleep until Foom's crew was ready. There have been many rumors that Fin Fang Foom will be involved in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. If those rumors are accurate, then the dragon design on these stunt jackets may be one way Marvel is teasing Fin Fang Foom's involvement.
Even if Fin Fang Foom is in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, that doesn't mean that this dragon is him. Dragons are a key fixture in Chinese mythology and culture, which could be an example of Marvel honoring this. It could have no bearing on the film's plot and be an aesthetic choice for the jackets alone. There's even the chance the dragon is Marvel incorporating elements of the Master of Kung Fu logo, which has a golden dragon circling the yin and yang symbols. Marvel fans are undoubtedly hoping that Fin Fang Foom appears in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and that this jacket is a sign of it happening, but we will have to wait for a confirmation that the dragon will appear.
