The Bachelorette: Michelle Money Says Producers Are Editing Clare To Look Bad
Bachelorette Clare Crawley seems to be having a great time with Dale Moss on screen, but offscreen, her life has been thrown into turmoil as rumors abound about the rest of the season. Her friend and former Bachelorette contestant Michelle Money says that all may not be what it seems.
Clare's season was already going to be unusual because of COVID-19, but things got even stranger when it was revealed that Tayshia Adams would be replacing Clare midway through the season. Reports said that Clare had quit the show because she had already found love with contestant Dale Moss. At that point, everyone thought that Clare decided to leave the show herself and was already engaged to Dale. The rumor going around was that she locked herself in her room and refused to continue filming, completely blindsiding producers. As her season of the show has been airing, new rumors have come to light, including that the producers had Tayshia on hand to replace Clare well before she met Dale. Clare's behavior on The Bachelorette over the last three weeks has started to alienate many fans. The editing is making it look like Clare is completely focused on Dale and never gave any of the other guys a chance. They've included many clips that appear to be "behind the scenes," outtakes, or other times that Clare doesn't know she's being filmed to build up this storyline. Is all of this really what was happening on the show?
Clare's close friend and former Bachelor star Michelle Money told Us Weekly's podcast Here For The Right Reasons that "production is totally doing [Clare] dirty." She went on to say, "The way that they're editing this storyline is so out of context that it's just so frustrating as her friend to sit by [and watch]. It's like [production] has no moral compass." Michelle appeared on Brad Womack's season of The Bachelor, and received a bad edit herself. She was branded the villain on the season and knows exactly what it's like to be taken out of context on TV. "We've all seen the show enough to know there is editing involved," she told Here For The Right Reasons host Sarah Herron, continuing, "Do you guys really honestly think she wasn't talking about any other guy? I mean, you can take anyone's life, film it for an entire day, and take little snippets."
Michelle's frustration isn't only about editing. She also spoke about whether production forced Clare out, or whether she chose to leave. "It feels to me like [production] had a plan and they were executing the plan," she said, emphasizing that she thinks producers "100 percent" had Tayshia on standby. While she doesn't think the producers were out of line to have a backup plan, she does feel that Clare was manipulated during her time on the show. "It is just unbelievable to me that they have these images of filming [Clare] behind a bush talking to a producer. Those conversations can be taken so out of context." Chris Harrison has publicly said that Clare was in control of everything happening on her season and was not forced out in any way. However, Michelle said, "It just feels like, 'What was happening behind the scenes that Clare had no idea was going on and that was completely manipulated and produced?' And that's what pisses me off about this show."
Bachelor fans will have to wait for concrete answers on what happens in the rest of Clare's season. We may never know what the producers were planning behind the scenes.
The Bachelorette airs Tuesday nights on ABC at 8pm EST.
