King in Black: Marvel's Next Venom Event Gets a Teaser Trailer
Marvel's next big event is almost here. A teaser trailer for the upcoming Marvel Universe-shattering event King in Black has been released, previewing Knull and his symbiote dragon army’s forthcoming invasion.
Written by Donny Cates with art by Ryan Stegman, the event is the culmination of their Venom saga over the past two years, and ties into several other titles with big implications in particular for the future of the Valkyries. Since the symbiote god Knull’s introduction, he has been a looming threat over the Marvel Universe.
A newly released teaser trailer for King in Black #1 features narration from a beaded Eddie Brock, shortly before morphing into Venom. The teaser sets a sinister tone with Eddie, as he senses the impending doom of Knull and the symbiotes, saying, “I can feel him screaming in the black towards me, towards us, towards the whole of creation, his hand’s wrapping around the world’s throat. This is it. No more running, no more hiding. No, the lord of the abyss, the god of the symbiotes… He’s here, so it’s time to go to work.” The preview also alludes to a team-up between just about every hero in the Marvel Universe, including the Avengers, the X-Men, Spider-Man, Luke Cage, the Valkyries, and many more.
After traveling through space, Knull finally makes his way to Earth with his army of symbiote dragons at his side. The King in Black poses a threat like none other to the Marvel Universe, as relayed by Eddie Brock who has witnessed the havoc of Knull and his dragons. With such an ominous tone to a teaser, it seems to suggest that the event might see the end of some major players - nobody appears safe, not even the recently introduced Valkyrie. In any case, Eddie Brock is teased to play a big role since this is ultimately an event based around his series. Whether it leads to Brock’s death or a brand new role for him to step into, he likely won’t be the same by the end of King in Black. As theorized by some fans, Brock might take on Knull’s title as the rightful god of the symbiotes.
Based on covers that have been released along with this teaser trailer, it's clear that Marvel hasn’t had an event as tonally dark as this in years. King in Black officially begins in December with an oversized first issue. The event will span across multiple titles, such as Thunderbolts, Black Knight, Gwenom, Daredevil, Guardians of the Galaxy, Deadpool, S.W.O.R.D, Savage Avengers, and the Valkyries.
