Why Amazon's Alexa Stops Playing Music And How To Fix It
Many Amazon Alexa users report that, from time to time, Alexa stops playing music. One of the most popular features of Alexa devices is the ability to play streaming music from TuneIn, Apple Music, Pandora, and Spotify. They can also stream music from favorite playlists or artists. Whether listening to streaming radio or a favorite playlist, it's frustrating when the music stops unexpectedly after one or two songs.
There are a few reasons this can happen and, fortunately, there are solutions to the problem. One of the most popular and go-to solutions for fixing any Alexa device when the music stops playing, or any other problem, is to unplug the device, wait for a minute and then plug it back in. Unfortunately, this does not always solve the problem. To properly resolve the issue, it is best to discover what's causing it and to seek the right solution.
One issue that could be causing the music to stop playing on the Amazon device is Wi-Fi connectivity. There are a number of ways to improve Wi-Fi connectivity when music buffers or does not play. If there are several other devices connected to the Wi-Fi, the Echo, Dot, or other Alexa devices might be experiencing congestion. Wi-Fi congestion can be reduced by turning off any devices that are not in use. If the Alexa device is too close to a source of interference, like a Bluetooth device or cordless phone, move it away. Simply moving the Alexa device to a higher location could also increase Wi-Fi connectivity and solve the problem.
If these solutions don’t solve the problem, try unplugging the Alexa device, rebooting the router, and reconnecting the device to the router. Connecting the Alexa device to the router’s 5GHz channel could result in better connectivity. Also, check the signal strength on the router to ensure a poor signal strength is not the problem. With the gradual addition of more and more Wi-Fi devices, the performance level of the router might have reached its limit and it may need to be upgraded.
Of course, it is possible that the problem might not be the Alexa device at all, but rather an issue with a different source. If there is a problem with music not playing while listening to Spotify or Pandora, play music from these sources on another device to see if the problem still exists. If there are problems when playing music on other devices, then the Amazon device is not at fault. If the music stops playing while listening to IHeartRadio, try switching to TuneIn to see if the problem persists. If not, then the Alexa device is again probably not at fault.
