Mandalorian & Baby Yoda Oil Painting Joins National Portrait Gallery
A Baby Yoda and The Mandalorian oil painting joins London's National Portrait Gallery. The hype has been growing exponentially for the highly anticipated second season of the Disney+ original series. The Mandalorian season 1 was a hit with fans and critics alike, with the show being nominated for 15 Emmy awards.
If season 1 was about Din Djarin, the titular Mandalorian, finding, rescuing and developing a fatherly bond with Baby Yoda, season 2 appears to be about finding a home for the cute green alien. The Mandalorian season 2 trailer revealed that Baby Yoda needs to reunite with the Jedi in order to find his home. This prospect doesn't thrill Djarin, because the Jedi have a tumultuous history with the Mandalorians. Season 2 will also reportedly feature the debut of fan-favorite characters from other Star Wars series, including Boba Fett and Ahsoka Tano. There's a lot of plot potential for season 2, but the relationship between Djarin and Baby Yoda should remain the heart and soul of the show.
Visitors to London's National Portrait gallery will be able to view an incredibly detailed Baby Yoda & Mandalorian oil painting, titled 'The Mandalorian and The Child'. The painting will be part of a The Mandalorian themed display, which will also include original concept art from the show. Fans have to act fast though, as the display will only be open to the public from October 30-31. According to THR, the oil painting will hang besides portraits of other famous Star Wars figures, including Sir Alec Guinness.
The cool National Portrait Gallery display sounds like the perfect treat for fans of The Mandalorian and Star Wars. Hopefully the display might get extended or make a return visit around the time The Mandalorian season 3 premieres (filming on season 3 is supposed to start before the end of this year). There is no doubt that The Mandalorian became a cultural phenomenon with the release of its first season, particularly with the immense popularity of Baby Yoda. Fans across the world have created tributes to the show, whether it be with fan art, videos, military-style fan portraits, and even a Baby Yoda dog costume. The National Portrait Gallery painting is just the cherry on top of countless artistic contributions celebrating the show.
The Mandalorian season 2 premiere is now streaming on Disney+. Just like with the first season, episodes will be released weekly. While it's been a year since fans last saw Din Djarin and Baby Yoda grace their screens, the tributes to the show haven't ceased and will likely increase with every new episode. Perhaps the Baby Yoda & Mandalorian oil painting can take a trip across the pond and be available to view at the U.S. National Portrait Gallery next.
The Mandalorian season 2 continues next Friday, November 6 on Disney+.
