Among Us: How Long Tasks Take to Complete (For The Sneaky Imposter)
The primary way to blend in with the crewmates in Among Us is by faking tasks. The Imposter has the tough job of faking tasks to blend in, allowing the Imposter to continue their murderous venture through the game's map. However, it can be tough to figure out which tasks to fake and how long these tasks take. Moving away from a spot too quickly will make Imposters sus, but not even pretending to do a task is just as sus as doing a task too quickly. This delicate balance can be tricky to navigate.
In order to be the best Imposter possible, learning how long each individual task takes can be lifesaving. Although each map will handle tasks differently, a few of the tasks overlap and can take about the same amount of time. Because of this, it's possible that some of the tasks listed below may take a little longer or shorter depending on the map they appear on. It's important for Imposters to know this and to (hopefully) adjust appropriately. Imposters have a tough job of convincingly faking tasks, but that sweet victory is worth the attempt!
It can be tough to fake tasks, but it's really important that Imposters at least try to fake them. To best fake tasks, it's important that the Imposter familiarizes themselves with the task list per map. The tasks per map will vary by just a little bit, and faking a task that doesn't exist is sure to send red flags to the crewmates.
It's also important for Imposters to remember what tasks they have already faked. Don't repeat faked tasks, otherwise the crewmates will find you extra sus. Imposters should run around the map as if everyone is watching them. This will help keep Imposters from being exposed too quickly.
Common Tasks are Great but Can be Danger
Common tasks are some of the best tasks to fake. These can also be faked alongside crewmates. Simply run up with a crewmate to a common task and stand there for a moment (about three seconds). Once the task bar moves up and the crewmate runs off, follow them and continue to fake these tasks together.
The Fixing Wiring task requires players to go to three different spots and line up wire colors. Standing at the panel and doing the task probably takes about three seconds per panel. If faking this task, ensure that the task meter goes up before leaving the panel.
The Swipe Card task requires players to remove a card from their wallet and swipe it at the door at just the right speed. This can take about three to five seconds.
Doing the Insert Keys task is also pretty easy. It only requires players to put a key in and turn it 90 degrees, taking a mere three to five seconds to complete.
The same idea goes for the Scan Boarding Pass task. Crewmates are required to take their boarding pass out and scan it in the system. It's similar to the Swipe Card task but, instead of swiping, players need to place their boarding pass under a light.
Essentially, common tasks will take three to five seconds to complete. Remember: if a crewmate is watching, wait until the task bar increases before leaving the spot. However, there is a bit of warning with common tasks. Every crewmate has a list of common tasks to complete, but the Imposter has no idea what the common tasks are. Faking a task that isn't listed will definitely make the player sus. At least for the first part of the game (while crewmates are focusing on common tasks), follow crewmates and pretend to do these tasks, just to be safe.
Short Tasks are the Same
Much like common tasks, short tasks will only take about three to five seconds to complete. They're easier to fake than Common tasks because not every crewmate has the same short tasks. It makes them ideal to copy. A list of short tasks include:
- Upload Data
- Calibrate Distributor
- Empty Garbage
- Divert Power
- Prime Shields
- Unlock Manifolds
- Align Engine Output
These tasks are short, sweet, and to the point. However, a few of them do require a tiny bit of travel on the part of the player. Align Engine Output, for example, will happen in two or three different spots. However, each spot takes about two or three seconds to align.
Long Tasks are Ideal for Imposters
Long tasks are the most ideal tasks for Imposters to fake because they require a lot of movement or commitment to complete. Because they force players to wonder far distances or to wait to complete, Imposters will have a better chance at faking these than any other task on this list.
These tasks can take a long time to complete. Additionally, the progress bar won't increase until the Long task is done, making it the ideal task to fake for Imposters. What long tasks appear will vary from map to map, but there are a few tasks that players can expect.
- Submit Scan
- Fix Weather Node
- Fuel Engines
- Start Reactor
- Inspect Sample
- Reboot Wifi
- Water Plants
- Run Diagnostics
Long tasks will take anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two to complete. These tasks require players to either stay in place for a minute or two, or will require players to move far around the map. It's worth looking up where each panel is located for each long task. This way, faking the task is much easier than before.
Visual Tasks are a No Go
It's important to mention this again, but Imposters should never fake visual tasks. These tasks will overlap with long and short tasks, so they're perfect for crewmates. But avoid faking these tasks because crewmates can see when they're complete. It make them the hardest tasks to fake.
However, experienced crewmates will also notice Imposters avoiding visual tasks. It can make an Imposter hella sus if they're obvious in avoiding visual tasks. Memorizing tasks and their duration is crucial to being a great Imposter.
