Sony Reveals Into The Spider-Verse Suit For Miles Morales Gaming Debut
Sony and Insomniac have revealed that those who grab Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales on launch day will get an extra spider suit based on the blockbuster film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The 2018 release was the moment the character of Miles Morales catapulted into the public consciousness, securing his spot as a side character in Insomniac's original Spider-Man game as well as this subsequent starring role in a PlayStation 5 launch title. The original game was full of suits from all across Spidey's vast history, so it only makes sense that this follow-up would take advantage of everywhere Miles has popped up over the years.
In Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Insomniac has shown off Miles battling with a radically reimagined take on classic Marvel villain The Tinkerer. An army of armored goons is taking over the comic book version of New York City, and the original Spider-Man is on assignment with Mary Jane. It's up to the superhero in training Miles to don the black and red and battle the opposing force looking to take advantage of the power vacuum. Alternate comic book covers released in the leadup to the game's debut have also showcased a new version of The Prowler, a villain with close ties to Miles Morales' comic book tales that also appeared in Into the Spider-Verse.
Starting off with a message from Insomniac Production Designer Justin K. Thompson, the gameplay reveal for the Into the Spider-Verse suit showcases how each activity in the game will look while rocking the distinctly animated look. Both combat and stealth have a distinct feel when playing as the Miles from the movies, and that's due to the costume's effect on the game's framerate. The character moves at the same pace at the films, which makes him immediately pop in the footage when compared to the goons he's fighting and the city around him. His punches and kicks also get cartoon accents a-la Adam West's Batman that are taken straight from the source material.
Players who want to secure the Into the Spider-Verse suit, players will need to preorder Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales on either PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5. The digital bonuses also include a second suit right off the bat. The white and black T.R.A.C.K. Suit was designed by Marvel artist Javier Garrón and comes with the Untrackable suit mod. Pre-order customers will also receive an early unlock for the Gravity Well gadget in-game, and a trio of skill points to start unlocking skills early.
Insomniac's take on Marvel's wall-crawler was already a highlight of the PlayStation 4 generation, so it's going to be great to ring in the arrival of the PlayStation 5 with Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The game has looked better and better with each new showcase and adding a suit from what is probably the best Spider-Man film out of all of them only elevates the game further. It remains to be seen how the stylish change in animation that comes with the suit will affect playing through the game, but it's a welcome addition even if it's just for photo mode.
Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales launches on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on November 12.
