How To Get Away With Murder: The 10 Best Scandal Crossover Scenes, Ranked
In 2018, there was a two-part crossover event between Shondaland shows How To Get Away With Murder and Scandal. The event began with the twelth episode of Scandal's Season 7 titled "Allow Me to Reintroduce Myself" and ended with the thirteenth episode of How To Get Away With Murder's Season 4 titled "Lahey v. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania."
The crossover put together two of TV's greatest female protagonists in Olivia Pope and Annalise Keating. Olivia has always been the fixer, so Annalise came to her for help and the drama began. There was plenty of great dialogue and brilliant moments. The following are the top ten moments in the crossover.
10 Olivia and Annalise Practice Her Arguments For The Supreme Court
After Olivia was fired from the White House, Annalise showed up to ask for help regarding a case that she wanted to be fast-tracked to the Supreme Court. Olivia was reluctant at first because she had plenty of things on her plate but later agreed to help Annalise.
In the opening scenes of "Lahey v. Commonwealth Of Pennsylvania," Olivia was seen coaching Annalise on how to maneuver the Supreme court. She was fierce as usual. Despite the fact that Annalise was older than her, Olivia treated her like a student, thus making her look less tough than she always did.
9 Michaela Sleeps With Press Secretary Marcus Walker
Michaela has done a number of despicable things and this qualified as one of them. She had bonded with Press Secretary Marcus Walker in the first part of the crossover and she finally decided to cheat on Asher with him during a stakeout.
During their chat, Michaela confessed that Marcus was everything she ever wanted in a man. When Marcus told her he was single, she initiated the kiss and one thing led to another. Even though what she did wasn't right, there were visible signs that her relationship with Asher was weak. She was always embarrassed by his jokes and felt she deserved better.
8 The Oval Office Meeting
Fans would never have imagined seeing Olivia, Annalise, Michaela, President Mellie Grant and Fitz all in the same room. That's exactly what happened when Olivia organized a meeting with Mellie in order to get help with the case.
Sadly, Mellie wasn't in the mood to help. Who would blame her? Olivia slept with her husband. Mellie advised them to push the case forward for a year but Olivia wasn't having it, so she asked to speak to her alone. After an argument, Olivia stated that they would be moving forward with the case, to which Mellie responded by saying it would make them enemies of the White House.
7 Olivia Tells The Hairdresser To "Give Them The Room!"
How badass do you have to be to go to someone's establishment then ask them to get out so that you can discuss a private matter with your friend? That's Olivia for you. When Olivia and Annalise went to the hairdresser, the news about Olivia's dismissal from the White House was aired on TV.
All along, Olivia had been pretending that everything was all good. When Annalise asked if it was true, Olivia ordered everyone to get out, including the owner of the business. When she began explaining herself, Annalise called her "a siddity phony!" These two women clearly need a spin-off series.
6 The Opening Scene Of The Crossover Even Mimics The HTGAWM Pilot
In the first part of the crossover event, Olivia, who had now resorted to teaching, was seen scribbling words on a chalkboard in a law school classroom. She wrote: "How to Survive a Scandal."
That title alone is good enough for a spin-off series. Fans must have noticed that this scene is similar to the one in the pilot episode of How To Get Away With Murder. Annalise did exactly what Olivia was doing inside a packed classroom.
5 Olivia And Her Team Try To Find Dirt On A Supreme Court Judge
The team at Quinn Perkins and Associates were tasked with finding dirt on Supreme Court Justice Spivey. Sadly, the dirt they found wasn't solid enough.
Olivia thus did what she does best. She went to see Justice Spivey in order to talk him into getting on their side. She told him that he didn't have to worry since they had nothing on him. The witness he bribed was dead. When Spivey asked her what she wanted, she just told him to do the right thing. At the back of his mind, he knew he had no choice since Olivia knew he bribed a witness.
4 Annalise Fires Back At Olivia
Olivia enjoyed going hard on people but at some point, Annalise had enough, When Nate went to D.C. to see Annalise, Olivia was mad as she felt this would affect her case negatively. She believed the court would use the fact that the face case was Nate to destroy Annalise. So she began yelling at her again.
Annalise wasn't having it, so she yelled back a Olivia, telling her that the case wasn't just about winning and satisfying her ego. This time she was doing something that meant a lot to her. The best part about the whole argument was when she barked “Stop handling me,” to Olivia, forcing her to relax.
3 Olivia And Ophelia Acknowledge The Contribution Of Women To The World
As Annalise was making her opening arguments and getting talked down by the judge., there were a couple of people who still were not settled. Ophelia was helping Olivia get cleaned up in the washrooms. Ophelia told Olivia that she should take care of herself more often because all she did was take care of others.
The two then talked about the contribution women make to society and how everything would be a mess without them. “Sometimes I think this whole country would just fall apart if we weren’t around to clean up the mess,” she told Olivia.
2 Olivia Helps Annalise Avoid A Relapse
When Jacqueline accused Annalise of ruining everyone in her life, she became sad and began weeping on the floor. Michaela found her in the bad state, so she called Olivia to come and talk to her and get her ready for the case. Annalise insisted she would need vodka in order to function properly. Olivia then sent Marcus and Michaela to get it.
When the drink was brought, Olivia told Annalise that whatever courage she thought the bottle would bring her was already inside her. All she had to do was channel it out. She also played reverse psychology games by telling her that if she felt she really needed the drink, then she should go ahead and take it. After giving it much though, Annalise opted not to take it.
1 Annalise Corners The Judge
Justice Strickland wasn't giving Annalise a chance in the courtroom, insisting that there were no racial motivations in the case against Nate Sr. Annalise thus requested to save the rest of her time for a rebuttal. She then sent Michaela to the court library to look up the case for "Bryant v. Topeka."
Annalise then stood up and gave a passionate speech about the race relations. She even quoted the judge from a 1982 case in which his own words were “race must always be considered a variable in legal decisions." She also made additional arguments about the importance of 6th amendment rights. And at that point, the judge didn't know what to say.
