Chucky Show Teaser Video Reveals Child's Play Doll Being Rebuilt
A short teaser video for Chucky shows the infamous murderous doll being rebuilt for original creator Don Mancini's upcoming SYFY/USA Network series. The first Child's Play movie, written by Mancini and directed by Tom Holland, premiered in 1988 and went on to spawn a slasher film franchise that included six sequels. The most recent installment, however, was a reboot starring Aubrey Plaza and Mark Hamill as the voice of Chucky, as opposed to Brad Dourif who voiced the doll in the original movies. Over time, the series morphed from horror/slasher films into horror comedies that featured campy humor.
It was announced in 2018 that the notorious doll would be receiving his own television series. Unlike the 2019 reboot, the series will see all three of its most well-known original contributors return: Mancini as creator and showrunner, Jennifer Tilly as the voice of Tiffany Valentine, and Dourif as the iconic voice of Chucky. Mancini's SYFY series will reportedly be an origin story of sorts for the titular doll. A few days ago, Mancini announced that filming for the highly-anticipated series had begun.
Now, a short teaser video released by SYFY shows the horror icon being rebuilt for the upcoming series. "It’s time to reconnect with an old friend," the teaser begins. It then goes on to show some behind the scenes footage of an animatronic Chucky doll being built for the series which premieres this fall. Watch the short teaser below:
Previous plot details that were released reveal that the series will pick up with a vintage Chucky for sale at a suburban yard sale, which quickly thrusts the idyllic American town into chaos. A series of horrifying killings begin to pull back the curtain for the seemingly peaceful town, while the arrival of characters from Chucky's past threaten to reveal the truth behind the murders as well as the doll's untold origins. Nica Pierce, who was played by Fiona Dourif, is another character who is expected to return.
Mancini previously teased his upcoming Chucky series as a "fresh take on the franchise" that will allow for a deeper exploration of the character of Chucky that would only be possible in the format of a television series. Though, Mancini also expressed an interest in remaining true to the original vision set forth in previous installments of the franchise. So far, all signs point to the Chucky series being a welcome addition to the franchise by fans of Child's Play.
