The fear of the unknown is what attracts viewers to keep watching movies like this, and fortunately, streaming services such as Amazon Prime have picked up on the demand.
Watching seemingly normal people deal with the weight of the world in their lap is somehow enjoyable, and if they're done right, can turn into classics that will be enjoyed for decades more.
10 The Core (2003)
When the Earth's core has stopped spinning, and major natural disasters begin to happen around the world, a team gets together to travel to the center of the core to set a nuclear device, hoping to alleviate the disasters and get the core spinning again. If they don't succeed, the globe might be doomed for good.
Starring Aaron Eckhart, Christopher Shyer, Ray Galletti, and Hilary Swank, The Core is an excellent doomsday movie that has plenty of action but doesn't take itself too seriously.
9 I Still See You (2018)
I Still See You is a movie set 10 years after an apocalypse swept across the world, and left survivors haunted and coincided by ghosts. When a woman named Roni (Bella Thorne) starts receiving messages from a ghost who was a killer before he died, she joins forces with Kirk Lane (Richard Harmon) to figure it all out.
They soon realize that there are other realms that the ghosts can communicate through with the living, and once humans experience it, there might not be much time for them. I Still See You is a must-watch for fans of the supernatural and the apocalypse genre and is one of Bella Thorne's best movies so far in her career.
8 Doomsday Book (2012)
Doomsday Book is a 2012 South Korean movie that is comprised of three segments, but all have the same narrative: the apocalypse. Chapter one is called, "In A Brave New World" and centers on a mysterious virus that results in a zombie apocalypse. The devastating situation happens because of a scientist and an improperly disposed of apple. In "The Heavenly Creature," a technician is tasked to repair an A.I.-type robot in a monastery after it claims it's Buddhist and has reached full enlightenment.
Finally, in "Happy Birthday," a little girl is distressed when she damages the eight-ball of her father's billiard set. She orders another ball from a strange website and throws the old one out of the window. Shortly after, South Korea is a straight shot for an asteroid heading towards Earth that looks like an eight-ball. Did the little girl make a mistake by ordering an asteroid instead of an ordinary pool ball?
7 Carriers (2009)
After an outbreak devastates the world with a mysterious disease, a man named Brian (Chris Pine), his girlfriend Bobby (Piper Perabo), a friend named Kate (Emily VanCamp), and his brother Danny (Lou Taylor Pucci) are heading to the beach for safety. After their car breaks down, they band together with a man named Frank (Christopher Meloni), who also is having car trouble, and is on his way to get his daughter some help.
With a mysterious disease wreaking havoc on her, other problems arise and they must decide on what is more important; friendship and family or staying alive. Of all the deadly viruses that pop up in movies, Carriers takes the cake for one of the deadliest.
6 Anna And The Apocalypse (2017)
It's the holidays in the little town of Little Haven, and the locals are battling an apocalypse, with a side of the undead. A particular teen named Anna (Ella Hunt) is fighting her way to survive, with the help of a little dancing, and singing as well.
This horror-comedy is a good one to watch around the holidays, but also if viewers are in the mood for a more light-heartened apocalypse movie to pass the time. Filled with zombified snowmen, Santas, and even elves, Anna and the Apocalypse is not just about the undead, but also about teenagers navigating their way through their teenage years.
5 The Night Eats The World (2018)
Sam (Anders Danielsen Lie) is a normal guy who lives in Paris and likes to go out and have fun. After a particular night of fun, Sam wakes up in an apartment and realizes he's the only one left. When he looks outside, he sees that the undead have taken over the streets.
He ends up barricading himself in the apartment and tries to figure out a way to survive by himself. Is he really the only one left in Paris or are there other survivors in the same position as him?
4 The Day After Tomorrow (2004)
The Day After Tomorrow is a classic movie with a mix of disaster and apocalypse, starring Dennis Quaid, Jake Gyllenhaal, Dash Mihok, and Emma Rossum. Quaid plays Jack Hall, a Paleoclimateologist who discovers an ice chunk that has separated from itself in Antarctica. This event triggers a huge climate shift, which will massively affect most of the world.
Jack's son Sam (Gyllenhaal) is in New York for a school event and is trapped there as a new Ice Age is looming over the area. Jack makes the daring decision to walk across several states to save Sam and his friends before it's too late.

Stake Land is a 2010 drama-horror movie that centers on a teenage boy named Martin (Connor Paolo), who is trying to survive on his own after the United States collapsed. Following an economic and political disaster, a vampire pandemic has taken over and has wiped out most of the major cities.
It's up to a man named Mister (Nick Damici) to take out as many vampires as he can, while keeping his new companion, Martin, safe. Not only is Stake Land a great post-apocalyptic movie, but also an underrated vampire movie to watch on Halloween or any time of the year.

Light of My Life is a 2019 sci-fi thriller that stars Manchester by the Sea's Casey Affleck. Affleck plays the role of Dad, as he journeys through a post-apocalyptic world with his daughter Rag (Anna Pniowsky).
After a pandemic wiped out most of the population, Dad battles to keep Rag safe, while concealing her identity in the process. The bond of a father and daughter is tested, as well as the remaining population around them.

An egotistical man named James (Nathan Phillips), and the rest of the population, know it's the last day on the planet. To celebrate the cataclysmic event that is about to happen, he travels across the dangerous and chaotic city to attend the last party ever.
Along the way, he meets a little girl who is looking for her father. Even though James wasn't looking for a companion, he realizes what's important while he still has time.
