Outriders: The Best Trickster Skills For New Players
Outriders is the unique looter-shooter we needed in 2021. Plagued by server issues, Square Enix has been transparent about its efforts to fix the game. Don't let these server issues stain an entertaining co-op looter-shooter combing Gears of War's combat elements with Destiny's loot system. Players will take on waves of enemies as they traverse the apocalyptic plains of Enoch, humanity's feeble attempt at life on another planet. With a digestible crafting system and re-playable quests, Outriders is a 'just enough' game. It's not overly complicated, an issue that's been common among recent RPGs.
There are four classes to choose from once players have made it through the prologue of Outriders. The Technomancer utilizes gadgets and AI to do its bidding while the Pyromancer incinerates enemies from mid-range. The Devastator will tank damage while the Trickster warps around the area and slows the enemy's movement. This guide will focus on the Trickster class and how players can best build theirs in Outriders' early stages. We'll discuss the best skills to use, which weapons best suit the Trickster, and how to heal effectively.
The Trickster is all about close-quarters combat. Once players understand how to combo the Trickster's skills, they'll discover this class to be the easiest one to play in Outriders. The Tricker is a valuable member of any co-op team and can devastate the battlefield when paired with a Pyromancer or Technomancer.
Outriders' combat engine feels like Gears of War. Gears players remember the 'Two Piece' melee/shotgun combo. The Trickster can perform the same action to eviscerate slowed enemies, especially when they warp behind using the Hunt the Prey skill. Shotguns are the Trickster's best friend, and players will have a fun time blowing slowed enemies to pieces.
Outriders: The Best Early Trickster Skills
The Trickster isn't necessarily an assassin, but they're pretty close to it. Use the following skills, unlocked early on in the game, to succeed as the Trickster.
Skill 1: Cyclone Slice - Create a whirlwind of Anomaly blades that deal damage and Interrupt onto enemies within a small radius of you with every hit. The skill lasts for 5 seconds.
Cyclone Slice is the last early-game skill players will unlock for the Trickster, but it's a must-use. Not only will Cyclone Slice dish out massive amounts of damage, but it will also interrupt enemies. When Captains are preparing their special moves, players can use interrupt abilities to stagger them and cancel the moves. They should always have an interrupt ability equipped for these situations. Cyclone Slice is also fun to use in general.
Skill 2: Slow Trap - Create a spacetime Anomaly that inflicts Slow onto enemies and projectiles for 10 seconds. Instant—31s CD.
Players will be using Slow Trap from the very beginning. The Trickster will spawn what looks like a bubble shield that slows enemies and projectiles caught inside. The best way to describe it is the enemies look like they're floating on the moon. Combined with Hunt the Prey, Slow Trap is the Trickster's go-to early game skill and should last well into the end-game. It's essential for recovering health and killing groups of 4-5 enemies at once.
Skill 3: Hunt the Prey - Select an enemy and teleport behind them and receive a shield bonus. Instant—11s CD.
Hunt the Prey will be the most fun players have as the Trickster. They'll warp a great distance behind an enemy and take them by complete surprise. It'll take some practice and getting used to, but the two-piece combo this allows is a great way to heal quickly and get rid of Marksmen. Use Hunt the Prey to warp behind a group of enemies and then cast Slow Trap to ensnare them in space-time. Be sure the Trickster's Shotgun is fully loaded and go to town.
Outriders: Best Weapons for the Trickster
The Trickster should stick to Shotguns and ARs/SMGs. Shotguns are a must to pull off two-piece combos and use Hunt the Prey effectively. Since the Trickster will be getting in close, SMGs/ARs will pair well. LMGs fire too slowly and take longer to reload. The Trickster needs to be as fast as possible. Leave the LMGs to Pyromancers and Technomancers.
The Tricker's main combat goal, especially in co-op, is to warp behind Marksmen and kill them first. While deep behind enemy lines, the Trickster can escape with ease while taking a few down with them. Hopefully, they can rely on their teammates for covering fire. Hunt the Prey is crucial for taking enemies by surprise. Keep an eye out for gear mods that buff this skill even further.
Outriders: How to Heal as the Trickster Effectively.
Outriders has the most unique health recovery engine we've seen in recent gaming history. Instead of purchasing health potions or picking up health packs, players must play to their class strengths to take advantage of their passive healing abilities. The Trickster will heal when they kill enemies nearby. Assume this means getting up-close and personal when low on health. Use Hunt the Prey and Slow Trap to kill multiple targets and recover as much health as possible.
Along with HP, the Trickster will also build up its shield when killing enemies in close-quarters combat. The shield is important for moving behind enemy lines. The Trickster becomes a tank in this regard as they soak up bullets to get point-blank kills.
The Trickster is the most fun players will have in Outriders. Once players get the hang of their skills, they'll be able to carve up enemy forces on higher world tiers. Don't get too cocky; the Trickster isn't invincible by any means. Keep an eye on the HP bar and know then those cooldowns are up. The Trickster relies on their skills far more than pure gunplay. Players should find a shotgun that fits their needs and stick with it.
Outriders is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Last-Gen
