Among Us Airship's Confusing Location Gets Innocent Player Voted Out
One of the locations in Among Us’s new Airship map has caused enough confusion to get at least one innocent player voted out of their respective match. Airship, which was released last March 31, 2021, is the social deduction game’s fourth and latest map along with being the game’s largest so far. Not everyone is particularly happy about the size of the new map though as popular Twitch streamer Pokimane commented that Airship is “too big, too much,” although she does also say she loves parts of it.
The new Airship map features significantly more locations than any of the three previously released maps for Among Us, with a total of 20 locations compared to just the 14 of its predecessors. The new map also introduced two new mechanics into the game, namely the moving platforms and ladders. Surprisingly, even though it's larger than the other maps, Airship has one less task than the second-largest map Polus and has done away with not only the Submit Scan task but visual tasks altogether. Although it has introduced a set of completely new tasks for players to undertake.
As shared by Redditor u/Shanman580 on the Among Us subreddit, one of the rooms in the Airship map is called “ventilation” and the room’s name caused them to be voted out of their match. For the unfamiliar, impostors are able to utilize vents in and around the game’s maps to hide and quickly move around some of their respective locations. With the huge similarity between the name of the new Airship room as well as the imposter-exclusive hiding places, players confusing the two elements with each other wouldn’t be surprising, such was the case in u/Shanman580’s match.
While the confusion caused by the name of the new Airship room will eventually wind down as more players get used to the map, some commenters on u/Shanman580’s post have suggested new names for the location. Some of the suggested alternate names include “balconies”, “showers”, “cargo bay”, “fans”, “fan room”, and more. As with many other games, the Among Us community will most likely come up with a name that the entire community will adopt and will become the norm moving forward.
It’s unclear whether or not Among Us developer InnerSloth intentionally named the new Airship location knowing full well the obvious confusion it would potentially cause but it certainly makes finding who the real imposters are more difficult.
