5 Ways Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina & Teen Wolf Are Similar (& 5 Ways They're Different)
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina followed the supernatural adventures of Sabrina Spellman as she strove to balance her mortal and witch sides. Such a difficult task found Sabrina bouncing between worlds, trying to find a home and constant in the ever-changing environments. When Sabrina focused more on her witch side than the mortal, she found that things had changed with Harvey, Roz, and Theo when she was absent. However, Sabrina kept finding herself continuing to keep her lives separate, even though they would inevitably clash and come together.
Teen Wolf also focused on the supernatural. However, the mortal world also played a significant part. It took time for Scott to adjust to being a werewolf and balance that with the life he was already living. Luckily, he was not alone and had his life-long best friend, Stiles, to lean on when things got hard. Friendship and chosen family are two of the greatest elements used in both the McCall Pack and series.
10 Similar: School
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina shows Sabrina, Harvey, Roz, and Theo at Baxter High throughout the series. While there, supernatural aspects do leak into the mortal world, but plenty of time is also spent on regular high school life, including cheerleading, bullying, and coming of age storylines.
Teen Wolf also shows the main characters at Beacon Hills High School. School is a primary setting throughout the series and is one of the most prominent locations where everyone can gather together. Both shows portray that while school may be crucial as a setting, for the most part, it is nothing more than a relatable backdrop in the midst of far more troubling problems.
9 Different: Sabrina Goes To Two Schools
Unlike Scott McCall, Sabrina Spellman attends two schools. One is the mortal school, Baxter High and the other is The Academy Of Unseen Arts, a school for witches and warlocks practicing magic.
The school is a way to open the door to the supernatural world of the series, while giving Sabrina other classmates to interact with, such as Nick Scratch and Prudence Blackwood. The Academy Of Unseen Arts is essential to Sabrina's journey, along with the Church of Night.
8 Similar: Both Shows Deal With Possession
To trap Lucifer, the group needs a vessel that will hold something as strong and powerful as the Dark Lord. As a way to step up, Nick offers himself as a sacrificial host body for Lucifer. The third season shows the aftermath of trapping the Dark Lord within Nick's mind, portraying the trauma such a choice made and how it affected Nick. While Lucifer is eventually removed from Nick's body, Nick was still left with the knowledge of how it felt to be possessed.
Stiles, on the other hand, was not a willing participant. The Nogitsune attached itself to Stiles and created chaos that left Stiles confused and terrified about facing his mother's mental illness. After discovering the truth, it was up to Scott and his friends to remove the Nogitsune from Stiles' body.
7 Different: They Have Different Supernatural Creatures
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina mostly deals with witches and warlocks. While the series does expand beyond that at different points, there is still a notable emphasis on those who can do magic. The main characters with powers, notably Sabrina, Hilda, Zelda, Ambrose, Nick, and Prudence, are witches and warlocks. Other creatures may exist, but they are not at the forefront.
That is not the case in Teen Wolf. Scott McCall is a werewolf, as are other main characters, such as Derek and Peter Hale. And there are also plenty of other supernatural creatures that are central characters. Lydia is a Banshee, Malia is a Werecoyote, and Kira is a Kitsune. Numerous other species come into play, whether as an ally or enemy.
6 Similar: Becoming Supernatural
At first, Sabrina was the only one with highlighted magical abilities between Sabrina and her mortal friends. Roz had something her family referred to as the Cunning, but she never thought of it as anything more, and neither did anyone else. It wasn't until Part 4 that Roz learned she was actually a witch. She became one of the Weird Sisters and joined The Academy Of Unseen Arts.
Lydia was only human at the beginning of the series, but after getting bitten by Peter Hale and not transforming into a werewolf and continuing to live, it brought up numerous questions about what Lydia really was. Later on, after numerous attempts to figure out why Lydia was so often connected to dead bodies, Lydia learned she was a Banshee. Like Lydia, Liam was human until Scott bit him to save Liam's life, turning Liam into a werewolf and Scott's first Beta.
5 Different: Stakes
The stakes for each series are vastly different. In Sabrina's case, she's dealing with apocalyptic-level threats that could actually end the world. Her father is Satan, and at times she visits Hell. These stakes are not low, and at one point, Sabrina sees a world where her hometown has been destroyed. In the series finale, the stakes are so high they end Sabrina's life.
In Beacon Hills, the stakes are lower. While still dangerous, most threats tend to remain in town rather than go beyond Beacon Hills. While this is not entirely accurate regarding the Ghost Riders, Scott and his Pack usually find ways to contain and defeat their enemy.
4 Similar: Enemies Become Friends
After getting bitten, Scott was not keen on spending much time with Derek. Even though Derek insisted that he wanted to train Scott to understand his new abilities and have Scott join his Pack, things were still rough between them. As time went on, Derek and Scott grew to trust each other and became a reliable team. Even Stiles, who was uncertain about Derek's intentions, grew to care about him too.
As for Nick Scratch and Harvey Kinkle, their mutual interest in Sabrina was one thing that made them hesitant to be friends. Another happened to be Harvey's uncertainty about magic, especially in the aftermath of his brother's death. However, toward the end of Part 3 and throughout Part 4, Nick and Harvey seem to be on better terms. Even though they are not considered best friends or share every scene, the animosity between the two seems to be mostly gone, and instead, the duo works together.
3 Different: The Secrets The Characters Keep
Sabrina grows up with witches and knows of magic her entire life. But, Sabrina's darker choices tend to be the ones she keeps secret. One of her greatest secrets was allowing two versions of herself to exist, with one living in the mortal world and the other reigning in Hell.
When Scott becomes a werewolf, he desperately tries to keep it secret from everyone, with only Stiles and Derek knowing the truth. His secret comes out with Melissa, Allison, Lydia, and others discovering that the supernatural exists as time goes on.
2 Similar: Involving Humans
When his best friend becomes a werewolf, Stiles is not left behind. Instead, he becomes obsessed with learning all about the supernatural to help Scott as much as he can. As their enemies and mysteries become varied, Stiles dives into studying as much as he can about different information about the supernatural. Stiles is helpful and intelligent in the grand scheme of events, even if his greatest weapons are a beaten-down Jeep and a baseball bat.
Harvey may not have had the same impact as Stiles, but he did willingly join the adventures. Harvey participated in helping Sabrina when it counted. He joined Sabrina's trip to Hell to rescue Nick and helped save the missing people in the void.
1 Different: Memory Wipe
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina had many of its main characters deal with terrible things, but it never removed their memories of a crucial person in their lives.
Teen Wolf, however, played with everyone's memories by taking away Stiles. Trapped in another realm, his friends are left at home with vague beliefs that someone they love is missing but no core memories of who they are. Lydia spends most of the first half of season six desperate to solve Stiles's mystery because she believes and knows that he exists.
