Borderlands Movie Casts Olivier Richters As Krom | Screen Rant
The Borderlands movie has added another name to its growing cast with Olivier Richters, who will play Krom. The film, which is based on the popular video game series from Gearbox Software, will star Cate Blanchett as Lilith, Kevin Hart as Roland, Jamie Lee Curtis as Patricia Tannis, Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina, and Jack Black as Claptrap. Borderlands is directed by Eli Roth and written by Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin, who is also working on the upcoming HBO The Last of Us series.
The Borderlands games take place in a galactic outer rim run by dangerous, militarized corporations. The treacherous planet Pandora serves as the story’s primary location, home to gangs of Mad Max-esque bandits, mercenaries, murderers, and monsters. Players take control of gun-for-hire treasure seekers called Vault Hunters, who fight their way through the wasteland in search of loot and glory. The series is known for its intense action, irreverent comedy, and plentiful pop culture references.
Olivier Richters has officially been added to the upcoming Borderlands film adaptation from Lionsgate. The 7’2” Dutch bodybuilder will play Krom, “the terrifying leader of the psycho bandits that rule Pandora,” per an official release. Krom is one of several villains who appear in the original Borderlands, and it sounds like he’ll be one of the primary antagonists in the movie as well. Richters joins Blanchett, Hart, Curtis, Greenblatt, Black, Florian Munteanu (Krieg), Edgar Ramirez (Atlas), and Haley Bennett, who will play an unnamed character from Lilith’s past.
The story of the Borderlands movie seems to be a blend of several of the games, with a few new elements thrown in. Lilith will be the primary protagonist, sent on a mission by the illustrious Atlas to find his daughter on Pandora. Both Lilith and Roland were playable characters in the first Borderlands game, but the other two original Vault Hunters – Brick and Mordecai – have not yet been announced for the film. Instead, the two mercenaries will be joined by a collection of characters from throughout the series, such as Borderlands 2’s Tiny Tina.
With so much comedic talent being assembled for the film, it seems Borderlands is looking to maintain the same action/comedy balance that the games are known for. The assembled ensemble is an exciting mix of both established names and rising stars. With video game movies reaching new levels of success of late, Borderlands has a lot of things going for it.
